OOfficial Discussion: WWE Cruiserweight Classic
I'm not positive this deserves its own thread, but I'm making one anyway.
quote:from WWE.com
Seven names have been announced for WWE Networks upcoming cruiserweight tournament.
The WWE Universe got its first taste of the upcoming Global Cruiserweight Series today when WWE COO Triple H revealed the tournaments first few
participants during a conference call.
NXT competitors Rich Swann, Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano along with international standouts Zack Sabre Jr., Noam Dar, Ho Ho Lun and Akira Tozawa
were announced for the Global Cruiserweight Series, which begins July 13 on WWE Network.
Its a very diverse group, Triple H said. Were scouring the globe and looking for the absolute best talent to be involved with this.
Earlier this week, it was announced that independent organizations EVOLVE Wrestling, Revolution Pro Wrestling and PROGRESS Wrestling will all hold
tournament qualifying matches in the coming months.
Stick with WWE.com as more details about the Global Cruiserweight Series become available.

It'll be interesting if they skip everyone who's worked in LU.

Reportedly, they offered King
Cuerno a spot. I don't know exactly how LU's contracts work, but LU might be the one to keep their guys out of the WWE tournament
and not the other way around.

Really excited to see what Zack Sabre Jr. can do in this. Think he's a pretty unique talent.
Not going to give absolutes on the rumblings I've heard, and the slightly different perspectived reported ones I've seen elsewhere...but
if they can somehow get Ricochet in this....oh man is it going to be something.

Interesting. Particularly since that character was created for LU. I wonder if that had something to do with it.

Probably not. Most likely, LU and AAA just don't want their guys working for another company.
More news: with Kota Ibushi being shown in the crowd at NXT TakeOver Dallas, it's pretty damn likely that he's got a spot in the
tournament. And if you want to believe Meltzer, Ibushi might even be one of the next NXT roster members.
Meltzer also said that if Ricochet/Sydal drop the IWGP tags next week, it's a major sign that Ricochet is headed for the tournament, too.

TAJIRI!!!!!
I'm really curious how this is all going to be booked. Also interesting to see two former WWE wrestlers in Tajiri and Kendrick on this list.

I'm glad Kota Ibushi is going to be in this. I think he could make it in the WWE. He is really, really good.
On the list, I'm glad to see some indy stars, but I wish Jigsaw (TNA: Rubrix) and Fire Ant were in this as two of Chikara's better high
flyers (even though Jigsaw's been on the outs with Chikara mostly in the last year). Glad to see Drew Gulak (very nice man and excellent
wrestler) and Gargano are on the list.

I also wonder if the winner (and semifinalists) of this tournament end up as WWE/NXT talent after the tournament and get treated like a big deal, or
if they flame out like Low Ki/Kaval.

Interesting the HHH said, "Were scouring the globe and looking for the absolute best talent to be involved with this.
But none of the active WWE roster made the cut.

I don't find it that surprising, actually. Would have taken away all of the intrigue surrounding the outcome of the tournament -- no chance
Vince would sign off on a member of his active WWE roster not winning a tournament involving lesser known guys and/or guys not even employed by WWE.
For example, you enter Neville, Neville is going to be your winner, no question.

Ciampa and Aichner do not strike me as cruiserweights. And I like Cedric Alexander's work in ROH, so it will be cool to see him with some of
the other names on this list.

The "opening ceremonies" video is up on WWE.com. Mauro and Daniel Bryan do very well building up everyone. The guy to keep an eye on is Sean
Maluta: not because I think/know he's good, but because the extent of the hype they gave him is he's cousins with Reigns and the Usos,
which means if Vince finds out about this thing, he's probably winning and being thrown on TV immediately.

He won't win, but he's one of my favorite wrestlers of all time.
I watched the weigh in video yesterday to get a look at the competitors and he was the only one who looked like he was going to murder the scale if it
didn't show the number he wanted.

I wish AR Fox could have been booked for the Cruiserweight Classic. That is a loss.
However, getting Prince Mustafa Ali in is a win! I am glad. I have been digging Prince Ali for the last six years or so. I always thought he deserved
to break out but seemed stuck in the mid-west. I even championed Prince Ali to PWG but that fell on deaf ears.

In the biggest news so far, Tajiri has signed a full time contract to remain in WWE. Almost 100% chance it's for a run in NXT but Tajiri vs
Owens would be all sorts of awesome.
