OOfficial Discussion Thread for: RAW (June 13, 2016)
Tonight on RAW: it's the last chance for WWE to add any extra zazz ahead of Sunday's Money in the Bank PPV.... that said,
they're already selling this year's as the biggest and best MitB PPV ever -- and they really aren't being THAT hyperbolic in saying
so -- so I'm not sure what else needs to be done other than staying the course....
The one discussion-worthy elephant in the room is that pesky 7th entrant into the titular MitB Ladder Match.... the one WWE originally promised and
spent two weeks talking about, before quietly declaring that there were only 6 men in the match... because of the whole qualification process, this
isn't a deal where a guy could reasonably just show up next Sunday and enter himself; if there's something up with a 7th spot, that needs
to be revealed tonight...
As previously discussed, Bray Wyatt is the guy who OO would put its money on to add to the most credible field of MitB competitors in many moons...
you've already got 2 former world champs, 2 surefire-lock future world champs, and 2 underdoggy-type fringe guys that fans will pull for no
matter what, so adding another proven prior main eventer (and likely future champ) to the list only enhances the drama and uncertainty over
who'll win... well, OO still hopes it's either Owens (because he'd be awesome at trolling us with the briefcase) or Ambrose
(because it's the best way to do a 3-way Ex-Shield Feud, and it seems like WWE is intent on getting to that sooner than later)... but Bray would
be fine, too, and honestly, you just can't go wrong with any of these guys...
Speaking of that 3-way Shield feud: the Ambrose Asylum returns tonight, with Dean hosting both Reigns and Rollins, just 6 days before their WWE Title
Match.... although I'd opine there is much wisdom in withholding Rollins' in-ring TV return until the PPV (to add an extra wrinkle of
drama), the opposing school of thought is that you have to give fans a little tasty taste of Rollins to "sell them" on the idea that he's an
actual threat to Reigns... ergo, I could easily see the Asylum leading to a tag match; all it takes is Jericho showing up to whine about how he
thought he cancelled the Asylum, and you're there...
If tradition holds, RAW wwill also just recycle the Cesaro/Zayn vs. ADR/Owens tag match from SD (it was a good one, but less than 2/3rds of the RAW
audience saw it), to deal with the other 4 guys in the MitB match.... given the way that tag match ended, though, you could also shake things up with
another Strangebedfellows Tag Match, or a straight-up ADR vs. Owens match (or any other configuration in which Owens continues to annoy and grate on
ADR; perhaps Owens choosing to manipulate ADR/Cesaro/Zayn into a 3-way match, while he relaxes and amuses us all on color commentary?)....
The final prong on MitB's Trident of Awesomeness is the AJ Styles vs. John Cena match, which has already been red hot in terms of promo and hype
work... much like with Rollins, the case can be made for withholding Cena's in-ring TV return, or for showing that he's still "got it"
by participating in a tag match tonight... my preference here: have Eggsavier sit out (still selling the injuries that caused him to miss last
week's main event), and set up Styles/Gallows/Anderson vs. Cena/Big E/Kofi for tonight.... Woods can act as the difference maker who tips it in
favor of the babyfaces (without burying Styles and the Club), or just go schmozzy non-finish....
Anything with the New Day and the Club also gets to the central issue regarding the tag titles.... both Enzo/Cass and the Vaudevillains are also
involved in the 4-way title match on Sunday, but it seems like you either keep running with the New Day while they are hot, or you shift the belts
onto the Club (the current hottest heel act, who could make hay with a rematch against the New Day, and then be great foils for Enzo and Cass'
first real "chase" of the titles, too)...
Also: WWE has confirmed no women's title match and no women's MitB, instead, they're just doing the Charlotte/Dana vs. Becky/Nattie
tag match on Sunday.... Rusev defends the US Title against Titus O'Neil, and I continue to feel like this will come off way better than most are
expecting.... Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin remains a going concern, and at the very least, that means a spot on the preshow.... Apollo Crews vs.
Sheamus got another little boost last Thursday, and will almost certainly battle Ziggler/Corbin for that preshow slot (they are largely flip sides of
the same coin; recent NXT call-ups trying to earn some cred, it's just one is a heel and the other a face, but neither is lighting the world on
fire just yet).... the Golden Truth's trials and tribulations, mostly caused by Breezedango, remain an inexplicably entertaining ordeal, which I
shamefully hope we see more of...
And lastly, the Dual Co-Controllership of RAW means there's always a chance for Shane/Steph stuff to use up some time.... last week, Steph ran
the show, solo, so maybe Shane gets a week of his own, too? That would seem fair, but it would also give Shane "last dibs" on changing things up for
MitB, which could be a fun hook, given his penchant for trying to do wacky crowd-pleasing stuff....
Either way, OO fully expects the Shane vs. Steph stuff to slowly become more and more focused on the brand split.... one will take RAW, the other
SD.... and in the meantime, if last week taught us nothing, it's that we should all live in fear of a one-week returns of the likes of Johnny
Ace and Vickie Guerrero... maybe we'll get lucky and William Regal and Mick Foley will sneak in for a week each, too? We've only got till
July 19, so really, one "Try-Out GM" per week for 5 weeks isn't a horrible idea....
That is all. End communication....
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome.
So discuss, debate, and rate!

Kofi: "These are hot in the streets right now, baybay!"
Big E: "*scoff* What streets?"
Xavier: "*snerk* Greenwich, CT?"
Kofi: "..I mean.. In all fairness... Those are some pretty mean streets."
I would consider giving him a Unicorn Horn, except 1) the horn is retired and b) the man clearly already
has one.

I'm kind of a nut because I thought about how great it would be if Kane's resume was a piece of raw liver and he put it in Steph's
hand.

I'm sure they have somewhere, but have the Shining Stars had a second match yet? I'm assuming I just missed it, as it was probably another
squash, but I haven't seen anything beyond more vignettes since their debut. I find it funny, even if that's not that case!

I thought he'd pull out the mask or something a bit more spicy than a rsum or a note from his 'brother'. For a second I thought
the rsum would be a picture of something. Could have been a pic of Kane hooking Shane's nutz up to the battery cables to get a giggle out of
Steph. Or they could have done a magician's trick and as Kane kept pulling stuff out of his briefcase he eventually pulled out something on
fire. I should work for WWE.
ETA: I don't know how I feel aboot Dean's "Can I speak to your manager?" haircut.

Yeah, they had a squash match on Raw a few weeks ago. It wasn't good. They might have been on Smackdown or Superstars, but I don't watch
those.

This is one of those times when I'm glad WWE has ample amounts of replay, as I've only barely paid attention to stuff so far and being
able to catch the finish to the Zayn/Cesaro match was nice indeed.

Thanks to that featurette they showed, I now know that those replays you're enjoying so much are captured DIGITALLY on HARD DRIVES by NETWORKED
PRODUCTION TRUCKS!
Actually, despite my lighthearted mockery, that was kind of a neat 'behind the scenes' look at the production side of the biz, even if it
was only 90-120 seconds or so.

But I REALLY want to know if their production trucks are able to withstand the impact of a fully grown luchador.
Edit: Ooooo, Choose Your Own Adventure contract signing. Hopefully AJ doesn't pick the one where he ends up dying from a snake bite or
something.

Death by snakebite? That sounds more like an "Oregon Trail Contract Signing". We ain't had one of those since .... Hm...
Nineteen-aught-six, I reckon. That was a big year for snakebite deaths, and the industry never recovered.

Actually, that'd be a difficult way to die, since they DID release Santino. Of course, Orton can always make his return via poisoning AJ. Or
maybe Stone Cold goes after him next week during his podcast appearance.
Also yay! Sin Cara came back from... wherever he's been. I also had the worst thought that when Kalisto went over the top rope it almost looked
to me like he could've ended up catching his head on the rope weirdly. I can't really recall how it all worked out anymore, though.

I work at an electronics recycling center, someone recently dropped off an old Apple IIe. I was able to revive it, and we actually had a copy of
Oregon Trail. Damn there were a lot of snakes running around back then.
Oh, and as far as Raw goes: Is it me, or is Cena eating AJ alive on these promos??

I was afraid your story was headed for "we got this computer, and then it was suddenly full of snakes." I'm weird like that.
Similarly weird like that, I feel almost like AJ's winning in the promo department. Maybe. I've reached a point where I can never quite
tell if Cena's promos are in Solid Mode, or in Typical Cena Mode.

No snakes... Cockroaches once, though. Nothing like opening up a case and having the interior scatter in 2 Million directions at once.
Also, a coworker found a tiny dead frog between the CPU Heatsink and fan once...

A friend of mine used to work for a software/web development and computer whatnottery type business a few years back and had a similar "open the
doors, and here's all the people but they're actually roaches" moment. Apparently that's a thing that happens just often enough.
In relation to the end of Raw, I was surprised when Del Rio and Cesaro popped up, as I'd never managed to notice them around until then.
Also yay me! 200th post. A REAL MILESTONE.

So with AJ signing on for a one on one match with Cena, are we to assume that a new member of The Club debuts and helps him win? Or is this just
another case of "that would be awesome, so the WWE isn't going to do it and Cena wins clean, you fantasy booking idiot" thinking?
And that segment was pretty great. I'm amazed how awesome AJ has been in the WWE, as almost six months into his run I kind of figured he'd
be teaming up with Zack Ryder and feuding with The Social Outcasts on Main Event at this point.

Couldn't resist.
I wanted to build on what goon said right there. Pre-AJ Styles coming in to WWE, I was one of those guys who knew he existed, knew that people
liked him, but beyond that, didn't give a rat's ass about the guy and didn't see the OMG!11!!!!!! in him making his WWE debut.
That's my WWE bias and all.
That quote above from goon? That. I have been incredibly impressed with the guy. He very quickly broke through my weak but shallow sentiment
secretly hoping that he was mediocre at best upon his debut so as to frustrate all the people who were swearing he was teh awesome11!!!11
He's been nothing short great since debuting and has stayed consistently great. Not sure how much of that is him, how much of that is
creative, and how much of that is the people he's been paired, but regardless, he's had minimally a not-insignificant part of it, and also
regardless, who cares because the outcome is what's important and the outcome is...he's been great.
Anyhow, not meaning to potentially derail the Raw thread and turn it into the AJ Appreciation Thread (not to be confused with that other AJ's
appreciation thread), but hey...we're at less than a page here and since
when have we ever let stupid things like thread titles get in our way!

Yeah, that was one of the better contract signings they've had lately. Cena was great in his part too, kept on focus and didn't over-do
any pandering to the crowd. This is an interesting angle to play with AJ, that he's pissed because someone/someones in WWE didn't want him
there until now and hence the heel turn. And a shout out to Cena again for the diss-by-omission at TNA by mentioning every place that AJ's
wrestled except TNA. Fuck, was it so long ago that when some crap WWE booking ruined a major RVD match so badly that the crowd (including Rob's
wife) started chanting "TNA! TNA! TNA!" in the middle of a WWE PPV? And now they're not even worth mentioning at all anymore, not even to
someone like AJ who spent most of his career there.

If "custom titles" are still a thing (Like the one that Dominator has about his love for Mr Orton), can we get
It's Enrico Palazzo! for Il Palazzo? Do we need a change.org petition to make this kind of thing happen, or just for some bonehead like me to
think it's a fun-thing-to-do?

I haven't been too interested in Stone Cold's last few WWE-broadcasted podcasts (I think his last guest was the less-than-stellar choice
of Big Show...?) but I'll for sure be checking out AJ's appearance next week for possible TNA mentions and many other reasons.

I always knew Styles was a terrific wrestler, but I had no illusions of him being any more than Dolph Ziggler based on his size and that WWE had given
him a lowball offer before. The fact that he's been booked so well is, for me, one of the best wrestling surprises of the past decade. Right
now, he's easily my vote for wrestler of the year.
