Hoo boy, I'm glad to be home. In the Miami Valley of Ohio, it's been raining all week. Drizzles mostly, but storms occasionally, and too much cloud cover for the sun to peak through. I love rain and storms—it's usually the best for me creatively—but man, does it wipe me out. I'm physically and mentally drained, though I confess that the latter has much to do with the tragedy in South Carolina.

Still, I've often wondered if I have that seasonal something-or-other disorder, because every time it rains, I get somewhat down. It's a weird dichotomy; I enjoy the rain and storms, but if it goes on for more than a day and I have to work (as opposed to just enjoying it from the comfort of my home), it just makes me exhausted. Not helping matters is my allergies to basically everything, although my newfound love for ChlorTabs is helping me get through that.

And, uh, that's been my week: fatigue, itchy eyes, unexplained sadness, and a whole lot of caffeine withdrawl. Fun times! Let's get to SmackDown for even more fun, shall we?

Opening: No replay of the ten-bell salute, which makes sense, but it does open with the “In Memory Of” title card. Very nice.

Segment 1: Sheamus hits the ring to start the show tonight to put himself over. He reminds us that we chant “You look stupid” at him, but who's looking stupid now, since he's totally got the Money in the Bank briefcase? He reminds us what the MITB briefcase means, then recaps what he did to Randy Orton on Monday. OO does not recap recaps.

Still, Sheamus knows that the briefcase isn't exactly an I Win button: he knows that The Authority, Seth Rollins, and now Brock Lesnar are factors in his gameplan on when to cash in. But he's going to use everything for his advantage, and no one will be able to stop him!

And here comes Dean Ambrose with a mic to retort his own two cents. After all, Ambrose beat him on Monday clean, and Bray Wyatt is the only reason Roman Reigns isn't holding the briefcase now. Ambrose is feeling frisky and threatens to beat Sheamus again, then “return the briefcase to its rightful owner.”

Sheamus counters that at least he won on Sunday, that Ambrose is all about stealing other people's accomplishments since he can't win any of his own. So fine: Sheamus puts the case down in the center of the ring, then invites him into the ring to take it.

Ambrose naturally sheds his jacket and goes for the ring, but once he's on the apron, Kane's music fires up. Kane pops out and says that Ambrose's whole thing is cause a lot of trouble, but doesn't follow through, just like Sheamus said. And he's tired of Ambrose's disrespect, so he's going to give Ambrose a “good ol' fashioned arse-whooping” as they did to Orton on Monday. And it's starting right now! Not even with any ads!

Segment 2 [1-on-2 Handicap Tornado Match]: Kane & Sheamus defeat Dean Ambrose by disqualification. Apparently it's tornado rules, as both heels decide to be in the ring at the same time. After a beat, they start to charge Ambrose together, so he just bails. He's not afraid though; he's just smart enough to not try to engage both heels simultaneously.

Sheamus doesn't want to wait, so he exits the ring and charges toward Ambrose, who leans against he corner barricade. Ambrose “escapes” by sliding into the ring, dodging a clothesline from Kane, and hitting Sheamus with a missile dropkick as he tries to get back in.

Rapid -fire offense from there as he chucks Kane from the ring, punches Sheamus, hits a suicide dive to Kane, then punches Sheamus in the face. But then Ambrose goes to the top rope, and Kane is there to crotch him.

The heels kick the crap out of Ambrose in the corner, then Reigns's music fires up. Sheamus exits the ring and stalks the usual corner, but Reigns enters from the opposite corner, slides in, and attacks Kane. It draws the DQ, but who cares: the faces clear the ring, and the heels look disappointed for not beating the shit out of Ambrose.

Segment 3: The obvious tag match has been booked during commercials. As the faces are WALKING~! in the back, Renee Young finds them and asks for their thoughts on the match, but Reigns ignores the question to threaten Bray Wyatt. Reigns storms off to look for him, and Ambrose wordlessly follows for support.

Pre-Segment 4: Brie Bella has new music that I guess is different from her sister's. It's... obnoxious. [Ed Note: it's the same music she used for a cup of coffee back when WWE was pretending Brie and Nikki were mortal enemies. But I agree, it's obnoxious. And not in the good way, like Naomi's.]

Also, Nikki is not accompanying Brie, ostensibly to “give Paige a chance” at a fair fight. We'll see.

Segment 4 [Singles Match]: Brie Bella defeats Paige by pin. Collar-and-elbow to start with Brie getting the “win” thanks to a bulldog, and a quick but failed pin. Brie delivered a low dropkick as well, but quickly suffered a few stiff kicks and a running knee from Paige. Paige shot the half, only two.

Both women exchange dropkicks, then Paige drove Brie to the corner with strikes. Paige put Brie on the top rope and tried to set her up for a top rope something-or-other, but Brie defended herself and turned it into a super sunset flip. Nice, but the pin only got two, and we go to ads from there.

Back, and Brie is in heel beatdown mode. Nothing interesting for a bit until Paige powered out of a rest hold and kicked the crap out of Brie, with one mule kick sending Brie to west ringside. Paige followed up with her apron senton, flattening Brie but giving her some damage of her own. Paige took a moment and threw Brie into the ring, but Brie oversold her knee. As Paige waited for the ref to check on her, Alicia Fox came out of nowhere and shoved Paige off the top rope. Brie's knee was miraculously better from there, hit Paige with a sit-down facebuster, and that's all she wrote.

After the match, Nikki came out to celebrate with Brie and Alicia, and Nikki even gave Alicia some Bella swag. Paige remains alone, though she's in my heart.

My silliness aside, the match wasn't really much to speak of, but it did what it needed to do for character advancement.

Segment 5: Renee interviews Kevin Owens about his “attack” on Machine Gun Kelly. Owens opens by asking if Renee is an MGK fan since she “looks like she would love his stuff.” Renee just scrunches up her nose and shrugs with a little smile; Owens sells this as “Yeah, I thought you were,” but I'm taking Renee's expression more as, “I'm not saying 'No' because WWE told me not to, so I'm just going be ambivalent.”

Anyway, Owens said he already apologized (which he apparently did in tweet form, always the bastion of sincerity), but blames MGK for putting his hands on Owens first, and says that really it's all John Cena's fault for not being on RAW. That... makes no damn sense no matter how you want to paint it.

Renee follows up with a question about Dolph Ziggler and asked why Owens didn't put his NXT Championship up for grabs on Monday; Owens says that it didn't matter, since he beat him anyway, you know? Oh, and there won't be an NXT Open Challenge tonight.

Then Cesaro of all people pops up, dismissing Owens and telling him that it's less “Fight Owens Fight” and more “Talk Owens Talk,” which isn't much of use to anyone. So Cesaro wants a piece of Owens, and just so there's no mistaking his intentions, he gingerly touches Owens's shoulder to point out that he “put his hands on him first.” Heh. Cesaro leaves before he gets an answer, and Owens looks offended. Renee just... leaves. Heh, again.

Pre-Segment 6: Dolph Ziggler hits the ring, soon followed by Bo Dallas, who wants to talk. Dallas says that it breaks his heart to see Lana on the rebound, but it must break Rusev's heart worse! I mean, poor Rusev had a broken heart, broken body, and broken soul, and Lana left him in his time of need! This makes Lana despicable, and Ziggler the worst rebound ever. She should be looking for a real man, and she just needs to keep looking and BO-LIEVE she'll find Mr. Right.

The best part of this whole spiel is that Lana and Dolph aren't even close to giving a shot. They're not engaging, not looking offended, and not getting angry. They're just... bored. And Lana oozes dignity, so she just relaxes a little as she lets Dallas spew his bullshit. Once again she acts like, you know, a normal human woman instead of some stupid idea of a high school shrew. Amazing.

Segment 6 [Singles Match]: Dolph Ziggler (w/ Lana) defeats Bo Dallas by pin. Dolph scores the first couple blows, but Dallas goes full-striking to put Dolph down in a hurry. Dolph oversells it a little, giving Dallas time to preen a little. But when he picks Dolph up again, Dolph hits him with a Zig Zag out of nowhere. Pin, three, done. Another short match that didn't do a damn thing for the action itself, but was necessary for character development.

Lana adds to it by smooching Dolph tenderly, and we see in the back that Rusev watched the match from a monitor. On the kiss, he looked like he wanted to bust the monitor with his crutch, but thought better of it and just threw the crutch into the floor. Then Rusev muttered, “If you have to kiss him... don't kiss him... on the mouth.” Naturally, my mind immediately leaps to dirty thoughts, and I'm certain Rusev didn't mean it that way.

Commercial: Usually I don't comment on commercials of course, and I don't know if this played on Monday, but it's certainly relevant. I won't bother with the setup, but the punchline to the commercial is that big badass Roman Reigns is singing “I'm a Little Teapot” with his daughter and joining her for a tea party. It's to help promote a site called Fatherhood.gov, which is a nice sentiment.

I only it bring it up because, given Bray Wyatt's subject of his tirade on Monday, I have a feeling that it's not a one-off comment to get Reigns's attention. It's always iffy when family gets pulled into a storyline; I can't help but remember the incredibly stupid story between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero's paternity fight, and I hope this one doesn't even go down a road in the same state.

Segment 7: Hype for Tough Enough. Apparently it's between seven men and six women, rather than the ten and five from the previous hype. Dunno if that means anything; I'm not going to be watching it. [Ed. Note: they had some issues with their chosen cast not getting medically cleared at the last second, which resulted in this odd configuration of 13. But like you said, I'm not watching, either. "Reality" TV where they had a set cast in mind, and the other 25 were just meant as window dressing, but then REALITY HAPPENS, and they're not quite able to adjust -- in Real Time, while sticking to their own Real Rules -- just kind of underscores how stupid you have to be to watch "Reality" TV. Because the people making it are already pretty stupid, too.]

Segment 8 [Singles Match]: Neville defeats Xavier Woods (w/ The New Day) by pin. Woods with the opening strikes and about three dozen stomps. Holy crap. Then Woods went for a fist drop, failed a pin, and applied a rest hold. Neville powered out immediately, back body dropped Woods over the ropes, then hit him with a suicide vaulting corkscrew. Holy crap.

As Neville tried to pick up Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston ran over to challenge Neville. Then the heels backed away as the Prime Time Players ran down to even the odds. Nice.

Back in the ring, Woods went for a flash pin but failed, and Neville countered with a stiff kick to Woods's face. Woods hit the canvas near the corner, so Neville teased the Red Arrow, but Kingston ran a visual distraction. Woods knocked Neville off the top rope.

As they both slightly (and correctly) oversold that exchange, Titus O'Neil dealt with Kofi by pulling him off the apron and slamming him into the barricade. O'Neil was taken down by E with a clothesline, but Darren Young was there to slap the teeth out of E's mouth. Young wandered a little too close to the apron, and Woods nailed him with a low dropkick through the ropes.

All four cornermen were down, but Neville found his feet. As Woods turned back around, Neville caught him with an enziguri. Woods dropped near the corner, and one Red Arrow later, the match was over.

Short match, nothing special albeit fast-paced, but once again it did what it needed to do for character momentum.

Segment 9: Seth Rollins hits the ring as we get a replay of Brock Lesnar's return on Monday. OO does not recap recaps, but after that non-recapped recap, Rollins puts himself over in the middle of the ring as he drips a confidence that he didn't have in the face of Lesnar. Rollins tries to tells us how heroic he is for being the champion and everything that goes with it, including super-scrutiny into every aspect of his life. Good thing those nudes were leaked by your girlfriend before you became the champion, huh?

Anyway, Rollins isn't happy that Lesnar is back, especially since Lesnar was abusing non-wrestlers before he was suspended. But though the return momentarily shocked Rollins, the shock turned to understanding since Rollins has already beaten everyone else, including Cena and Orton. Rollins knows he has to beat Lesnar to secure his legacy.

Rollins also mentions that on Monday, Lesnar totally didn't do anything aside from getting in Rollins's face. And that's because Lesnar is so totally afraid of Rollins, because Lesnar remembers getting his ass kicked by Rollins at WrestleMania. So Rollins can't wait to take him on.

That's the end of the promo, and I kinda like it. The commentators debate whether Rollins was full of confidence or full of shit, especially since he had none of that bravado on Monday. Good stuff.

Segment 10: Replay of Bray Wyatt's promo on Monday. OO still does not recap recaps. Although apparently the picture Bray held up of Reigns's daughter was a still from the aforementioned Fatherhood.gov commercial, so it must have played on Monday.

After the replay, we see Reigns holding a thousand-yard stare in the locker room. Ambrose tries to refocus Reigns's mind into the present and tries to convince him not to think about Wyatt right now, but Reigns tells Ambrose not even to mention him. Reigns says he's ready to handle business tonight, but then he needs to get home.

Segment 11 [Singles Match]: Kevin Owens defeats Cesaro by pin. Light chain wrestling to start as each guy gets a “win” from exchanges. Cesaro wins the third exchange with a simple shoulder block that puts Owens down, and Owens rolls out of the ring to avoid further pain. Sadly for him, Cesaro has been taking notes from Tyson Kidd, and Cesaro hits a suicide dive through the ropes. Although, Cesaro took the “suicide” part a little too literally, as he dives straight down after clearing the ropes. Jesus, that's a good way to snap your neck... maybe he's taking pages out of Lita's book instead.

Well, Cesaro got to his feet first and seemed fine, and followed up with a running European Uppercut out of the ring. Cesaro flung Owens back in the ring, but got caught with a few strikes as he tried to reenter. Both guys teased apron suplexes. Owens tried a clothesline, which Cesaro countered with one of his own. But when Owens got up from that he smashed Cesaro's head against the post. Given that Cesaro had still been on the apron at that point, Cesaro crashed and burned to the black mats, and things settled down as we went to ads.

Back, and Owens had Cesaro held with a chinlock. Cesaro eventually powered out and hit a spinning uppercut from the ropes, then went punchy-punchy to Owens's gut. Owens countered with a slick rebound tornado DDT from the corner, then shot the half but only got two. Owens then decided to steal Cesaro's taunt and possibly finisher, but Cesaro countered out and teased the Cesaro Swing. No dice but he still hit forward slam after some exchanges, and he failed the pin after.

Cesaro maintained offense with a couple uppercuts and another failed pin. When Cesaro went to follow, Owens hit him with snake eyes in the corner. Owens followed up with the cannonball, but failed the pin attempt.

Owens was frustrated and bitched for a second, then went to the top rope. Cesaro recovered and went with strikes, including an uppercut to stun him. Cesaro then went up to the top rope as well, and they teased a superplex. Owens shoved him off; Cesaro landed clean on his feet and hit a high dropkick to counter, sending Owens crashing to the canvas. Owens rolled out to the apron; Cesaro caught him, smacked his head into the post, then grabbed his arm and went to the middle rope. Not sure where he was going with that, and Owens pulled him off to crotch him on the top rope. Owens reentered the ring, shoved Cesaro off the south ropes, then hit the Pop Up Powerbomb. Well, that came out of nowhere.

Solid match. Despite being short, it actually stood on its own (unlike every other match so far tonight), and it still advanced Owens's momentum.

Segment 12: The Miz reviews Vendetta which stars The Big Show. This is allegedly framed as being funny, but... meh. This just wastes my time, though Miz's entire thing is to insult Show.

Segment 13: Replay of the Dusty Rhodes memorial montage.

Segment 14 [Tag Match]: Sheamus & Kane defeat Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose by pin. Ambrose and Sheamus to start as they exchange strikes. Ambrose gets the better of it at first, but Sheamus takes over after a counter in the corner. Sheamus maintains the heel beatdown from there, including a couple near-falls, until Ambrose hits Sheamus with a flying punch after a counter to an Irish Whip. Kane wanted to get involved, so a Pier Four Brawl exploded in the ring. Sheamus and Kane were dumped over opposite top ropes, and the faces held the ring as we went to ads.

Back, and Ambrose delivers a couple kicks before the real heel beatdown is on from Sheamus. The first exclamation mark came when Sheamus dropped Ambrose on the commentating table with essentially a military press drop before tossing him back in the ring, and quick tags cut the ring in half. Sheamus enjoyed targeting Ambrose's WOUNDED~! knee, including that weird leg hold where Sheamus bent it behind his head, then stood up so Ambrose's own weight further wrenched his knee. But then Ambrose did a military crunch, sitting up on Sheamus's shoulders to counter the hold, and he came down with a huracanrana.

It sent Sheamus all the way out of the ring, though the leg slowed Ambrose's recovery. Sheamus got back in the ring and chop blocked the weak leg, then tagged out. Kane also targeted the leg while also striking him in the face. Ambrose got a hope when Kane tried throwing him over the south ropes, but Ambrose held onto the top rope. Ambrose couldn't skin the cat but at least got to the apron. When Kane charged, Ambrose countered by guillotining him on the top rope. Ambrose followed up with a top rope flying elbow as Kane stood. The elbow connected, though Ambrose landed on the bad leg, so both men went down.

A pregnant pause as both guys hit hot tags, and Reigns went house of fire on Sheamus. Strikes, clotheslines, and a Samoan Drop were precursors to a Superman Punch signal. Kane cut that off and grabbed Reigns by the throat. Ambrose tried a top rope move to break it but Kane caught his throat too. However, the faces managed to break out, and as Kane rolled out of the ring. Ambrose wanted to follow with a suicide dive, but Sheamus was there with a Brogue Kick to stop it. He ducked a Superman Punch, then Reigns ducked the Brogue Kick, then Reigns hit Sheamus with a clean Superman Punch.

Reigns signaled a Spear, but then Bray appeared on the Titantron singing “I'm a Little Teapot” and showing the picture. Reigns got distracted and ate a Brogue Kick as a result. Pin, three, done.

Good match, though pretty paint-by-numbers. Still, it did what it needed to do, and the match result probably couldn't have gone any other way.

Bray remained on the Titantron to laugh even as Sheamus retreated in celebration. When Sheamus exited through gorilla, Bray said, “Happy Father's Day, Roman. Run.” Lights went out, then came back on, and Reigns was in the ring, but now so was that same photograph that just magically appeared.

Final Thoughts: Only one match to really speak of tonight, with the main event being good but not great. However, every match on the card served its purpose; unlike Monday however, there were no “get off the sofa and pump your fist” moments as Rick calls them. The whole night was formulaic from start to finish, which isn't bad, but not particularly good either. Meh, basically. And “meh” means a C-average, though I'll be nice for the Ziggler/Owens match.

Otherwise, everything I wanted to say is in the body. Enjoy it, and I'll see you next week.
