ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW: ECW
Zack Ryder Ain't Too Bright
October 8, 2009

by Firewoman
On Loan from the OOWrestling.com Forums

It’s the second most wonderful time of the year. The first most wonderful time is the NHL playoffs. The second most wonderful time is the beginning of the season, before the reality sets in that my team will break my heart at some point, and probably multiple points of the season. The Blue Jackets are 2-0!! I will enjoy this while it lasts. It distracts me from a certain other team in a certain other professional sport that is 0-4.

There is also a new season of “Saturday Night Live” to entertain, or not. I’m checking that out now as I write my preramble. Then we’ll get to the post “Hell In a Cell” ECW, which, to be honest, I’m interested to see who won what, as I did not get the PPV due to a conflict. (The conflict being a house guest not into wrestling.) Sure, I could have read our humble webmaster’s recap, but, well, I didn’t. That way the recaps they show will be all like a big surprise, right?

We open with a reminder that GM the Tiffany is out and GM the Regal is in. Wait…this is a recap. I don’t do those…

We are live-ish from Trenton, NJ, and Interim GM the Regal comes walking out, with Kozlov and Jackson. He sends out his best wishes to Tiff, and gets on with how great an idea it was to make him Interim GM. Because the Board of Directors told him he couldn’t make any drastic changes last week, Regal makes himself the number one contender this week. He is explaining his reasoning, when he is interrupted by Zach Ryder. He protests. Regal demands respect. Ryder insists he’s the number one contender. Christian comes out to be the voice of reason maybe? He complements them for their compelling television, and then says neither of them deserve the spot. As proof, he brings out Yoshi, Tony Atlas, and a guy with a mop, Angelo. Angelo is the arena janitor, who accomplished more today than either Ryder or Regal, and thus is a more deserving number one contender. We move on to Tony Atlas, who shows off his Hall of Fame ring, and laughs on cue. Christian says both of these things make him more deserving. Next is Yoshi Tatsu, who gets a moderate pop. Yoshi won some matches, too. And has actually pinned both Ryder and Regal. Regal protests the use of the name “Bill,” but Christian takes a vote, and the crowd approves of “Bill.” And it doesn’t matter anyway what “Bill” thinks, because GM the Tiffany is BACK! Yay! Complete with cast!

She thanks Regal for his admirable job filling in last week, but she is back. And she has not yet made the decision of who is the number one contender, but they can all make their case tonight. Zach will get his rematch against Christian tonight, and Regal and Yoshi will meet up. Finally, Zeke and Vlad get to go next against… well, she doesn’t say. Regal is not thrilled, but everyone else is satisfied.

Match 1: Ezekiel Jackson/Vladimir Kozlov def. Tommy Dreamer/Goldust

Hey, we get a new ring announcer! It’s a female, but it can’t be one of the Bellas, because she hasn’t screwed up anybody’s name yet. I was kind of hoping for a squash, and I’m not sure that’s not what we’re getting, really. Dreamer and Goldust double team and tag in and out quickly to counter the power of Regal’s crew, however Goldust makes an error which keeps him isolated away from his corner, letting Kozlov and Jackson have their way with him. Goldust eventually makes the tag and Dreamer comes in a house o’ fire, hitting all his moves. He gets Jackson down for a pin which is broken up by Vlad. This brings Kozlov in. The referee clears the ring and Dreamer goes for Jackson, but then decides to get Kozlov off the ring. Bad idea, as this gives Jackson the opening he needs for his power slam.

Backstage, Regal is impressed with Tiffany’s recover. He does his best to try to influence her to change her decisions, but Tiffany plays it perfectly. Regal goes away unsatisfied.

Match 2: Yoshi Tatsu def. William Regal

The match starts and the referee has to stop it because Regal’s boot is untied. Yoshi attacks mid-tie and has to be pulled off, but eventually Regal gets his wardrobe malfunction sorted out. Oh, he also pulls something out of his boot and puts it in his trunks. The laces on the boot continue to be a problem. Typical offense from Regal, although a bit stiffer than usual at a few points. After the commercial, Tatsu is doing his kicky things until Regal throws him out of the ring. Regal does all sorts of things that look very stiff and I can’t tell who’s fault some of the moves that come close to ‘botched’ status. Yoshi comes back with a flurry of kicks, and goes for a spinning kick off the top turnbuckle, which Regal dodges, but Regal doesn’t dodge the superkick.

Vlad and Zeke come out as Regal tries to explain to the referee that his foot was outside the ropes. On our replay, we see that this is in fact the case. OMG~! Controversy!

Match 3: Christian def. Ryder via DQ with Shenanigans

Ryder comes to the ring, but Regal is still protesting, so we go to commercial, but he’s still protesting when we get back, and Christian is in the ring. These two have their typical good match, slow start, but then it picks up after the second commercial break.

Ryder has the edge after the commercial, getting several near falls. Finally, though Christian feeds off the crowd, and gets them into it. (Regal & Co. continue to watch with no expression.) Christians flurry of offense begins, as he hits all his moves, but Ryder counters the Killswitch into a Tiger Bomb. But he only gets a two count. Christian rolls to the side and Ryder tries to pull him over the ropes, but Christian counters that with a Bitchslap. Christian bends over the ropes and puts his head between Ryder’s legs, and I get distracted for a minute. Oh, he just lifts him up and over to the floor. Christian goes up top and splashes onto Ryder. Christian gets up and Zeke and Vlad have seen enough. The attack Christian and the referee calls for the bell. They throw Christian into the ring, and Regal comes in with him. Regal boots Christian in the head as new announcer gives the match to Christian.

Ryder comes in furious because he thinks he has the match won, and complains to Regal & Co. They take his complaint under advisement, which is to say that Zeke and Vlad knock the crap out of him. We fade to the three standing triumphantly over the bodies of Christian and Ryder.
