ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
WWE TV Spoilers
August 26, 2003

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

I'm in condensed mode today.  So: you want to ruin the rest of the week, read on, otherwise, get out.  Got it?

WWE Sunday Night Heat
(Taped Monday, Airs Sunday)

  • Scott Steiner beat Some Guy
  • Test beat Some Other Guy (Stacy was obligated to be at ringside, but blatantly cheered for Some Other Guy)
  • Stevie Richards and Victoria beat Tommy Dreamer and Ivory when Victoria (thanks to Stevie) pinned Tommy
  • Val Venis beat Rico in a match that was close to a replay of the one that they had a while back on RAW.

WWE Velocity
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Saturday)

  • In likely dark matches: Ultimo Dragon beat Some Guy, and Mortis and Funaki teamed up to beat Two Other Guys
  • Billy Gunn MIGHT have beaten Doug Basham, but Noble, Danny, Torrie, Nidia, and Shaniqua were all at ringside, all got involved, and OO On the Spot Report MistaBinks can't remember for sure.
  • Shannon Moore beat Some Guy
  • Tajiri beat Billy Kidman in a very good match that earned Tajiri the #1 Contender spot in the Cruiserweight Division; Tajiri played a mildly heelish role and used the green mist to win
  • Haas/Benjamin successfully defended the Tag Titles against the APA

WWE SmackDown!
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Thursday)

  • Eddie Guerrero opened the show with a promo, and his hometown greeted him with an ovation the likes of which has only been given to the likes of Hulk Hogan in the last year or so.  This will, according to two reports, have to be edited down for TV, because the crowd was so loud that Eddie couldn't even speak over them for long stretches.  Eddie thanked the fans, and talked a bit about his long road to the top, and was eventually interrupted by John Cena, who's heel rap went over huge.  Between the two of them, they set up a US Title match for later in the show.
  • Rey Mysterio beat Nunzio is a good Cruiserweight match.
  • Chris Benoit manages to score a clean submission win over A-Train.
  • Backstage: as Benoit was returning from the ring, he was attacked and laid out by Rhyno.
  • Also backstage: Eddie goes to check his ride, and finds a wheel rim missing.
  • Big Promo #2: What starts as an Undertaker promo quickly ends up with Brock Lesnar and Big Show also in the ring, and all three are arguing their case for being the #1 Contender to Kurt Angle.  Eventually Kurt, with Stephanie McMahon, comes out, and the fivesome agree to set up a Triple Threat Main Event for the #1 contendership.
  • In the longest and best match of the night, Eddie Guerrero had to settle for a DQ win over John Cena.  It was hotly contested, but in the end, Cena blatantly low-blowed Eddie in front of the ref for the DQ.  Then, Cena continued a post-match attack to massive heel heat, using his chain and (conveniently enough) the hubcap he stole from Eddie's car.
  • The main event was also lengthy and good (the big promo and two top matches eat up the whole second hour, supposedly), and was won by the Undertaker.  With Big Show powdered out, Taker managed to hit the Last Ride on Lesnar to score the pinfall.  Kurt Angle did commentary for the match, but didn't really get involved.  He and Taker locked eyes to close the show.

Sounds like a great break-out show for Eddie...  whether it lasts past his homecoming is yet to be seen, but it looked like the set the stage for a feud with Cena, which PROBABLY means Eddie's the face.  Not that Cena's not got some fans, but Eddie's ahead in that race.

Check out SD! on Thursday, or come on back to OO for full coverage on Friday.
