ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
WWE TV Spoilers
January 8, 2003

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

The first WWE TV tapings of 2003 are in the books... were they memorable?  Did they even do a good job of building to the Royal Rumble?

Well, if you can't wait till later this week to find out, then here you go... compiled from e-mail reports are the results for Heat, Velocity, and SmackDown!:

WWE Sunday Night Heat
(Taped Monday, Airs Sunday)

  • Steven Richards beat Spike Dudly
  • D'Lo Brown beat Maven
  • Tommy Dreamer beat a local jobber
  • The Hurricane beat Jeff Hardy via pinfall; after the match, Raven interfered, and attacked Jeff...  Hurricane and Jeff worked together to run him off

WWE Velocity
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Saturday)

  • Nunzio beat Crash Holly
  • Funaki beat a local jobber
  • Bill DeMott beat a local jobber
  • Chuck Palumbo beat a local jobber (who got legit KO'ed by a superkick)

WWE SmackDown!
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Thursday)

  • The Big Show beat Rikishi with a chokeslam, and afterwards, he and Paul Heyman had a few words of warning for Brock Lesnar.
  • There were some vignettes that played on the FistTrons, but nobody agreed on the order in which they happened, so here's a quick rundown:  there were two or three clips from the Dawn/Al honeymoon, all centered on Dawn's insatiability and/or Al's physical exhaustion... there was a repeat of the "Dead Man" promo from last week... and there was an expanded version of the Nathan "Nailz II" Jones promo, too.
  • Billy Kidman beat Matt Hardy, clean, with a Shooting Star Press. Shannon Moore was once again back in Matt's good graces at ringside, but was not able to help his mentor win.
  • John Cena and B2 did some rapping/promo work, which segued into Cena defeating Chavo Guerrero in a singles match.  Eddie was at ringside, and wound up brawling with B2, while Cena used his feet on the ropes to pin Chavo.  Cena was definitely the heel, with the Guerreros getting babyface heat.
  • Charlie Haas managed a win over Edge, thanks to copious interference.  Both Shelton Benjamin and Kurt Angle were at ringside, which meant Chris Benoit came out to counter balance things.  Benoit eventually tried to go after Angle when he tried to interfere, but that allowed Benjamin to do some damage, getting Haas the win over Edge.  This led to a big brawl with all five men, but eventually, everybody but Benoit and Benjamin was herded towards the back, and we moved directly into....
  • Benoit got a DQ win over Benjamin after a good match.  Angle came back out and whacked Benoit with a crutch when Benoit locked Benjamin in the Crippler Crossface to cause the blatant DQ.
  • Bill DeMott basically squashed Shannon Moore.  Matt Hardy, who had been doing commentary for the match, laid out Moore again after the match.
  • In an offshoot of an earlier match, Eddie Guerrero defeated B2 to level the score for his nephew.
  • In the main event slot, A-Train hit the ring and started calling out Brock Lesnar.  Lesnar came out, and dispatched A-Train in about 3 minutes....  at which point, the plan seemed to be for Paul Heyman and Big Show to come out and join in a big attack on Lesnar.  Instead, Heyman and Show stood up on the stage, and hung A-Train out to dry for the closing beatdown.

You can check out these shows as they air... or just keep an eye glued to OO for our recaps and analysis in coming days.  Your choice.
