ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
SmackDown! Spoilers...
March 27, 2002

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

The WWF's last joint-roster SmackDown! is now a thing of the past...  well, at least on tape, it is.  It won't actually air till tomorrow night on UPN, but it was taped last night in Philadelphia, PA.

The return to Philly -- the Tigress and Euphrates of Extreme -- meant the Fed pulled a few rabbits out of their proverbial hat...  a couple of guys not seen on TV in months returned (to a noticeable "ECW" chant), and the signature ECW tag team got one final farewell moment together in the ring before being split between the two rosters starting next week.

If you don't want to spoil the specifics for yourself, then by all means, you're encouraged to hit BACK on your browser now...  there's plenty of other stuff here for you to read!

But for those who cannot wait until Thursday night to know what happens on SmackDown!, I present to you the full results from last night's tapings, compiled from e-mail reports:

-  Dark matches:  Crash/Kidman beat Saturn/Hugh Morrus, and Mr. Perfect beat Randy Orton...

-  Heat matches:  Edge beat Goldust (via pinfall with a Spear)...  Lance Storm beat Scotty 2 Hotty (via pinfall with a superkick)...  Jazz beat Molly Holly (via submission with STF... the Mighty Molly gimmick was NOT in evidence last night)...  William Regal beat Tajiri (via pinfall by illegally holding the tights).

-  SmackDown!, proper, started off with DDP and Booker T wrestling briefly...  until Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman came out of the crowd to cause a No Decision.  Lesnar wound up destroying DDP while Booker got away relatively unscathed.

-  Kurt Angle hit the ring for a big promo.  He tried to elicit sympathy for Stephanie McMahon (but didn't get it).  Vince McMahon came out and also supported his daughter, saying he'll now work to make Triple H's life a living hell for what he did to Steph.  HHH comes out, and both Angle and Vince want to fight him; Vince says since SD is his show, he's making a HHH vs. Angle/Vince match for later tonight.  Flair makes an entrance and says he's still 50% owner for tonight, and turns it into a tag match:  HHH/Flair vs. Angle/Vince in the SD main event.

-  Billy and Chuck retained the tag titles over the Dudley Boyz.  The gimmick here was that the only way the Dudleys could remain a team was if they beat Billy and Chuck and won the titles.  But thanks to Rico (who distracted D-Von while Bubba got double-teamed and pinned), that did not happen. After the match, the Dudleys regrouped and hit all of their trademark spots (including a table spot) on B&C, to the delight of the Philly crowd.  A fitting send-off for the Duds, who seem destined (for now, at least) to pursue singles careers.

-  Backstage:  the APA -- also on their last night together -- organize a poker game, with the main goal being to get Torrie Wilson into a game of strip poker.  She agrees (along with Tajiri).

-  Lita and Matt Hardy are shown talking about how happy they are to still be together on the same roster when Chris Jericho interrupts and gets all salty.  He says he's not a has-been, and beats down Lita for no readily logical reason.

-  Kane, Hulk Hogan, and the Rock are talking backstage, in preparations for their tag match against the nWo...  Kane winds up impersonating both Hogan and Rock over the course of the segment, getting big laughs.

-  Kane, Hogan, and Rock beat Nash, Hall, and X-Pac...  Hogan "hulked-up" on Hall, and that led to the hot tag to Kane, who was able to pin X-Pac following a chokeslam.  After the match, Rock orchestrated a post-match celebration in which both Hogan and Kane did a classic "Hulk-a-Mania" style posedown.

-  Backstage, Christian has joined the APA card game in time for Tajiri to win a hand.  Christian throws a temper tantrum (to laughs), and Torrie decides to only remove her necklace (to boos).

-  Chris Jericho got Matt Hardy to submit to the Walls of Jericho.  Crowd tried a "has been" chant, but it didn't catch on full force.  After the match, Jericho also locked Lita in the Walls.

-  Rob Van Dam retained the IC Title with a win over Test.  Test went for a powerbomb, but RVD flipped out and turned it into a schoolboy roll-up for the pinfall win.

-  A returning Raven was interviewed backstage, and got all intellectual on the fans, which was his way of setting the stage for a hardcore title match.

-  And sure enough, Raven was able to wrest the Hardcore Title away from Maven in a match that also featured a run-in by another ECW Alum, Tommy Dreamer.  Dreamer's run-in was deflected by Maven, but provided enough of a distraction so that Raven could hit the DDT for the win.  Sparking some kind of a storyline between Raven and Dreamer in a hardcore division is exactly what I asked for last Friday, so this could be good!

-  A final skit at the APA card game:  Hurricane has joined, but is passed out after drinking some beers... and here comes William Regal to gloat about the APA being broken up.  Well, Regal gets a tag team ass-kicking, and then Bradshaw and Faarooq turn to each other, congratulate each other on a great tag run, and then close the APA offices for good.

-  Angle and Vince beat HHH and Flair, but only thanks to the interference of the Undertaker.  Biggest pops in this match were for HHH and Flair doing coordinated offense (dueling chops, and dueling Figure Fours)...  but gimmicky offensive spots were no match for the Taker, who pounded on Flair, allowing Vince to score the pinfall while HHH and Angle brawled elsewhere.

-  After the cameras stopped rolling, HHH and Flair recovered, and HHH did a big in-ring tribute to Flair, the general gist of which was, "If there hadn't been The Man, there would not be The Game."

Check out SmackDown! on UPN Thursday night, or otherwise, be sure to get back here to OO on Friday for full results!
