I really DO love OO! These awards are much appreciated. It's just gone past my one year anniversary of signing up here, and in that past year I've had a lot of fun posting and reading here. Thanks to everyone that's been a part of this.

THE PRESTIGIOUS RICKIES ARE HERE!

Forget the rest... now, it's time for the best! These are the three you've been waiting for!

Best Poster Who Opened His Account in 2001: OORick

There can be no denying that of the forums participants who opened their accounts in 2001, OORick is the one who stands out as having contributed the most -- and the most important -- posts of 2003.

His status as an old timer, a virtual living legend if you will, has not resulted in the malaise, cynicism, or complacency that you might expect in these modern times. In fact, OORick has upgraded his efforts remarkably, having -- quite possibly -- his finest OO Forums year EVER in 2003.

A full 80% of his prolific output, in fact, came over the past 12 calendar months. This is not the resume of a poster resting on his laurels and reliving his past acheivements. Rather, OORick seems to be a man inspired, envigorated, and reborn to perform at the highest level possible in the competitive world of the OO Forums.

I salute you, OORick, and believe that there can be absolutely no voice of dissent when I say you, good sir, are the class of the, umm, Class of 2001. You rule!

Worst Forum of the Year: Crashing the Boards

Despite the rampant idiological dick waving contests of "Current Events" and the fact that most have never even visited, much less posted to, "International/Indies" or "Book It Yourself" or the criminally under-used "Books" forums, no single Forum has seen its stock drop as much in 2003 as "Crashing the Boards."

Once a noble experiment in finding and elevating new columnist talent -- something of an OVW for OO, if you like -- with the added benefit of providing OO with one cheap compilation column per week, CtB is now little more than a place where people congregrate to use bigger (and more) words than usual. For shame.

The noble experiement has failed. People got columns on OO in 2003 not because they excelled in the proving grounds of CtB, but rather because (a) Jeb mentioned them to me (and I'm powerless against Jeb's suggestions), (b) they are girls (again, with the powerlessness), or (c) they draw pretty pictures (I likes stuff I don't have to, you know, read or think about).

At this rate... prepare for OO's newest weekly feature, as culled from somewhere NOT in Crashing the Boards: "Photoessays by beatenlikeagovernmentmule". It has come to this! And it's all my fault!

Error Message of the Year: cannot open xmb_threads.MYT

Much like Time Magazine's "Man of the Year," OO puts much time and consideration into it's Error Message of the Year. This is not simply a popularity contest, but rather, a serious investigation into which Error Message, for better or for worse, most impacted all our lives in 2003.

That honor goes to cannot open xmb_threads.MYT.

Did cannot open xmb_threads.MYT cause us to lose over three months worth of messages? Yes, including many true gems that should have been recorded for posterity. Did cannot open xmb_threads.MYT cause the OO Forums to shut down for over a week? Yes, leaving many with absolutely nothing to do at work. Did cannot open xmb_threads.MYT return periodically throughout April to attempt to wreak it's havoc again? Yes, causing a sense of forboding each and every time.

Those accomplishments alone may have qualified cannot open xmb_threads.MYT for this distinction as Error Message of the Year. Even raining down its wrath upon us, it caused us each to dig deep within ourselves, to become better people, perhaps, even, to do some work at work.

But even as a rogue and a scoundrel, cannot open xmb_threads.MYT wound up unintentionally bringing about much good. It's tenacity resulted in so much study, research, and development by the OO Forums Team that a cure for cannot open xmb_threads.MYT was found that not only eliminated it once and for all, but which also blessed us all with many additional benefits that did not exist prior to cannot open xmb_threads.MYT.

The proper functioning of the "edit" feature, management of registration (requiring a real e-mail address to foil the poopsters), and a ton of other cool things most of you need never know about but which help the Mods fight their own little War on Terror much more quickly and easily than before... these are all things that would never have happened without Update 1.8, and update that most likely would never have been applied without cannot open xmb_threads.MYT.

cannot open xmb_threads.MYT, you may be respected by a few. You may be reviled by most. But you will be remembered by all.

That is all. End Communication.

Rick

So let me get this straight. I leave for awhile and when I come back there are actual "awards" given for this stuff? Maybe I shouldn't have taken such an extended lay off....Anyways, I have to agree with most of the awards, and I guess this acceptance speech I had will just go to waste....

I was just wondering when we will get the ball rolling on this year's bOOardies. Do we start nominating some time at the end of November, or do we wait until December 1st? I cannot remember when we did it last year. All I know is that the year is almost over and we should start thinking about dates for nominations, voting, and the handing out of awards. Also, will there be any new awards, or will we just stick with the current slate (which would be fine by me)?

I await to hear what others have to say about this, especially Army of One, because he is the OOficial bOOardies electoral officer.

I was aiming for an around December 1st kick-off. As of right now, we'll keep the same categories, but obviously this is the peOOples' awards so any new suggestions are welcomed. May change best feud to best flame as feuds don't seem to be as abundant as they once were. But they are coming, I didn't forget.

My screenname is named for my "package" after all

Wow. I mean, damn. I love you guys. And I'm only a year late in accepting this prestigious award. I have no idea why I never stumbled upon this post before, but thank you mods for recognizing the pornography of my name when I was completely oblivious to it.

I'd like to thank everyone that has laughed at my absurd, and sometimes unfunny jokes. I'd like to thank Alana, because, well, I have a crush on her. I'd like to thank SalmonJunkie for hating that Asian dude from American Idol. And an extra big thanks to Jeb/BTR/Canadian BullDog/Matt Hockings for consistently making me laugh. Now I go to fondle my award. Fuck the rest of you.
