OOfficial Discussion Thread for: AEW/NXT Wednesday Night Fight (November 27, 2019)

AEW vs. NXT SNAPSHOT
AEW Weekly Viewership Wins: 6
NXT Weekly Viewership Wins: 0
Ties: 2
Current Streak: None, last week was a tie
Average Total Combined Weekly Audience (including replays/streaming): N/A (hopefully I will be able to find a reliable source for these figures in the near future)

LAST WEEK'S WEDNESDAY NIGHT FIGHT
Live Viewership: TIE, ~900,000 viewers each
Total Viewership (including replays and streaming): N/A (ditto)
Which Show Was Better in OOur Expert OOpinion: NXT
Micronalysis: AEW held its own in terms of the steak (in-ring), but NXT had the benefit of RAW and SD visitors and the final build to Survivor Series. Sometimes, sizzle cannot be overcome (especially when it, too, comes with a decent bit of meat).

THIS WEEK'S WEDNESDAY NIGHT FIGHT

The Dayton Flyers and Kansas Jayhawks tip off at 5pm, in the championship game of the Maui Invitation. This is the only fight I'm fired up for right now and I'm on my way out the door to commence holiday drinking about 6 hours earlier than is standard on Thanksgiving Eve.

Somebody else will have to do the deep dive on what to expect on tonight's shows. Either that, or y'all can just -- you know? -- watch them as they happen and save your commentary till then.

That is all. Go Flyers.

Dynamite opens with Virgil, AEW automatically wins the night. It does work that way, doesn't it?

NXT is going to draw a .001 tonight because of that.

But wait, NXT counters with a, um, soulfully-themed opener of their own!

IT'S. A. SOULFESSSSSST!!!

ETA: How the fuck am I supposed to watch Le Champion and Baybay do show opening promos at the same gotdanged time?!?!?!

NXT wins in terms of mic quality, however. But now Jericho's shilling champagne, so maybe they still win.

Edit: This is still a hard choice, I suspect interesting things are afoot on NXT, but at the same time, Chris Jerigoat.

Edit II: Jericho's dad in a box! NXT can't do that.

Jericho is gonna get his dad and the entirety of the Inner Circle shot tonight if he keep this up. I mean, wrasslin' jack-jawin' is one thing, but hockey snipin'? Hockey?!

If that happens, I wonder if the goat becomes the new champion by default or something.

I did just finally pinpoint that Schiavone isn't on commentary as of right now. But yes, maybe? It feels about normal, but maybe? Also, I'm glad I was paying attention to the Commercial Break Tiny Box Action, because that weird bit where Emi Sakura did a little dance with the ref and then weaponized his arm was pretty funny.

NXT wins because I saw this:

Did Adam Cole get caught basking in Keith Lee’s glory hole? Because Mr. Lee put some stank on that.

That Cole/Lee spot was even more amazing because of how unexpected it was. It was like one second Cole was walking out to interfere in the match and the next he was simply just...gone.

Even more awesome considering that fan in the front corner seat was holding a small child when Lee sent Cole flying over them.

Candace LaRae swept this year's awards for Outstanding Achievement in the field of squeeness. She's like a kitten so adorable everyone who sees her stops in their tracks just to say "aww!".

Well you know, just because these young men have little education and live in squalor, it doesn't entitle them to commit antisocial behaviour and get away with it.

Correction: it wasn't a child, it was a Jean Kasem-esque Florida Woman that dove for cover. Still, doesn't make it any less of a Golly! moment.

Well, I feel like whatever weirdness in AEW got out of the way eventually, not that I can necessarily put a finger on what it was. Well, JR's commentary went in some strange directions at times, I can say that much! And I can't say much for Cody's bit, since I missed basically everything except the final bit where I guess there's now a stable of two guys wearing black and Allie in a rabbit mask.

God bless Excalibur for trying to keep the announcing on the rails, but JR makes it almost impossible when he has instances like calling Trent Baretta Matt Taven. Also, when JR pokes fun at Excalibur calling out some of today's wrestling moves. He could do himself a favor and maybe learn a few, but that would actually take time and effort, which JR doesn't seem to have the inclination to do.

Despite Jericho's hijinx, AEW felt a little off this week. Can't put my finger on what it was. I think NXT had the better showing between the two.

I noticed (along with some of you) that AEW was a bit off as well. The Omega/Pac, MJF/Page and even main event didn’t seem as killer as the usual matches we’re accustomed to. The ending of the Best Friends/LB match seemed to come out of nowhere and the women’s match was......well, I skipped it so I dunno. The Cody squash match was just there.

Who are Basher and Breaker (or whatever their names were)? I don’t think the crowd knew, either. The DDP ring ceremony, the opening Jericho shenanigans as well as the Dustin Runnels interview just seemed to exist to just exist. I like DDP’s music, though. Recognized that Jackyl guitarin’ a month or so back when he stormed the ring.

Totally forgettable show except for the fact that it just didn’t click. And that’s not something you want to be remembered.
