OOfficial Discussion Thread for: SmackDown (November 1, 2019)

Tonight on SmackDown: a jetlagged crew tries to do their best to amuse us! By which I mean "amuse YOU." Myself, I'm headed out of town early Friday for a 2-and-a-half-day annual "retreat," so I have to post this early.

[By which I mean "a ton of my college friends and I get together on a large piece of land in the middle of nowhere and party like we used to in college, with zero threat of the cops getting called." Not quite "off the grid," but one bar of 3G is still quite rustic if you ask me! And even once I'm back in the land of reasonable data, I expect to be hungover well into Monday.]

The biggest thing to address: SD is now home to both the WWE and WWEU champs, as Bray Wyatt beat Seth Rollins in Saudi Arabia... Wyatt is the guest on MizTV, or so they say.... no details on Fiend of Funhouse Friend, but my guess is that before Survivor Series, they introduce the plot device that sends Bray back to RAW to level things out... seeing as how Miz himself makes more sense over on RAW, too, could it be leading to a package deal? [Wyatt/Miz in exchange for Velasquez/Rey with other moving pieces?]

Also, two announced matches:

Roman Reigns vs. Boring Carbon. Yawn.

The Revival defending against the New Day. Much less yawn, maybe even enthusiasm given how good they've been before (including just earlier today in Saudi Arabia for an extended segment).

Y'all will have to fill in the additional details as they become available, as this is all we got as of this writing. More of less, everything ought to have a focus on Survivor Series, though, which we now know will be tri-branded, and will include NXT~! Asuka and Kairi, a winners are you!

That is all. End communication...

The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 10pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

WWE has had some issue in Saudi and a lot of the talent has been stuck there. So we can expect this SD to feature the women heavily.

Good thing Daniel Bryan and Sami Zayn never left.

You would think the Saudis would be experts at flying in, getting a little bloody, then flying out. Smackdown, now at the Turkish consulate.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue..... errrr, watching SD live.

Tonight will be interesting. WWE has finally made an official statement, and even the "emergency" charter with only a dozen or so high priority personnel is apparently going to be late. Brock Lesnar is the only guy from the entire Saudi show who will be in the country at 8pm tonight, but he wasn't originally advertised to appear.

As mentioned, Conscientious Objectors Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan and the entire SD women's division will be on hand, since they never left the country. Also, Miz, who I don't think objects, but he just had other commitments.

WWE's press release also promised "surprises." Kevin Owens (from RAW) is about the only other main roster guy who didn't travel. Some buzz that they might lean on NXT to jump start the tri-brand aspect of Survivor Series. But other than that, who knows?

The Saudis usually don’t have a need for flying back after the blood is shed.

I hope they talk about the traveling issues (jeez, who thought cutting it that close was a good idea?) and then it would be perfect for the NXT guys to crash the show like Raw and Smackdown were doing a year ago. Doubt there’s time to get everyone flown in (assuming they had no plans anyway), though, unless something similar was already planned just in case.

Yeah, you'd think that they could arrange for SD to be done by those who didn't travel instead of making the ones going through a 36-hour travel/jet lag show up to perform. Even it they just do promos they're still going to be mentally numb as zombies from the rush schedule. Fucking idiot company.

I was planning on skipping this to continue my never ending battle to catch up on the shows I watch that I more than 50% care about, but with the recent "I bet all the missing wrestlers are now trapped in a Saudi murder dungeon, preparing to stage a daring escape" shenanigans, I suppose I'll watch SD and see what doth happen.

Starting out with Bork, and Tom, Aiden, and Renee on commentary. Neat!

ETA: Nice trick getting me to watch Towlie Bowl, WWE.

I'd love to think that out there somewhere is a casual WWE viewer who didn't pay enough attention to know about Crown Jewel's specifics, and tunes in tonight to see this footage and wonders about why everyone decided to dress as a Middle Easterner for Halloween.

Edit: Well, I bet this explains why Bray can be Raw champion on SD. Because Bork's switching to Raw?

They should've just gone with an hour-long Iron Lady match between these two and BOOM, half the show covered.

Edit: Figured the match would go a bit longer than that, but I also didn't expect that to happen either. Hooray for beatings!

Brock for Bray? Ummm....wouldn’t trading Rey for Bray make more sense?

Bray on SmackDown just seems fucking odd.

And yeah...NXT, NXT, NXT!

Well, this current "trade" makes sense if for no other reason than both shows will have a top title apiece instead of both on SD people.

Also, I was thinking someone here had mentioned how despite Sami being one of the few people not stuck in Saudi Arabia, he'd probably still just show up to talk shit and get beaten down by one or more other people. Regardless of where I saw that mentioned, it seems to have come true.

Interesting they'd put Derek Lee on Smackdown. They just debuted Riddle & Lee as a team two days ago, and there's much more well-known NXT performers than him. That said, good introduction & showcase for him.

CURRENT NXT SHENANIGANS ON SD MAKE ME SO HAPPY! WWE PRIME SHOULD GET STUCK IN MURDERVILLE MORE OFTEN!!!

Also, yay Mr. 6000! I am very clearly using my limited time on Earf wisely!

I'm pretty sure no one is moving from NXT tonight. Unless it turns out that someone does end up moving. Seems the answer to "how do we make up for a bunch of our people being stuck overseas" is "oh yeah, NXT, just bring those guys over for a bit."

Keith Lee is fairly awesome. He looks like a Disney bear that thinks of murder all day long. Should fit in well with Owens someday in a flying fat-guy match.

Turns out NXT Murder Night is a lot more fun than Saudi Murder Night could ever be. They should keep the bulk of the main roster, and all the bookers, overseas for an extra night (or week, or month, or (preferably) entire year) more often.

ETA: D-Bry vs. Cole for the NXT Champeenchimp. I take back every naughty thing I ever said about you, Saudi Arabia. You can chop off as many body parts as you want, no worries on my end. #AllahBlessed

WWE: only RAW guys can face RAW guys. Only SmackDown guys can face SmackDown .

Also WWE...here a bunch of NXT guys on not NXT.

That being said...who cares about logic when they give us bonus Ciampa AND Daniel Bryan vs Adam Cole BAY BAY!

Oh, I wasn't insinuating I thought this was any sort of roster call-up or change in brand alignment.

I wonder what the FOX execs think of tonight's show becoming a 2-hour advertisement for a show on another network. I realize the airplane trouble kinda forced their hand tonight, but they could have easily gone with the "ironman women's title match" idea, or a long women's gauntlet match to determine the next #1 contender. But if Survivor Series is really going to feature all three brands, and if Paul Heyman's declaration that Smackdown talent is exclusive to FOX & Raw talent is exclusive to USA is true, then it would have to be the NXT talent that can "invade" both Raw & Smackdown to build the Survivor Series matches.

And lo, travel issues help build a PPV. I guess. GOOD ENOUGH.

It has been kind of weird to watch the show start out with "let's just do stuff with who we have laying around" and turn into a nonstop parade of NXT invaders. But this has been the most NXT-related stuff I've been able to really watch since the AEW/NXT Conundrum kicked off, so yayyyyyyyyyy.
