Rumor Crap 2019, Part II: No Rumor Is Ever Really Gone

New rumor thread is necessary

I guess to continue, AEW scored nearly 100,000 buys for their Double or Nothing PPV, much higher than any TNA PPV in history), and just shy of ECWs highest bought PPV, which should be eclipsed with the replays.

Also, Lesnar vs Rollins is hyped for RAW next week, so, uh, yeah, that may or may not happen (Id bet five on it not).

Discuss!

I mean they literally just did a promo last week where Heyman was all ha ha, we have a whole year to get in your head!, and now Heyman is suggesting that theyll cash in next week? Okay.

And good for AEW if that number is legit. I had worries about it when they announced the $50 price tag (Id have strongly suggested $20-25 for their first show with a goal of just getting as many eyes on them as possible), but if they got at or near the 100K then it definitely cant be called a failure by any means. Does that number include internet streams or is it cable system PPVs only?

Jinder Mahal in full wrestling garb on a golf course with a referee in tow is pretty much exactly the type of goofy shit I want to see with the 24/7 title. More of that please.

Have him lay the khalasa on Truth's caddy (or Tiger Woods) and it would be a great face turn for Jinder.

I like it in principle except for one aspect. I can't 'member if I read it here or elsewhere, but I seen't someone somewhere ask this very relevant question: What the fuck is the incentive to having this title if just walking around with the goddamned thing can get you brained at any moment? It's kinda like WWE's version of murderball except what does the title holder get out of it? The prestige of yoinking it out of someone's hands with a quick ambush roll-up? For example, can they not add a stipulation where the holder gets to challenge for any other given title if he holds it X number of days?

"Anytime, anywhere" is the only point of it. How it happens is irrelevant and it's not worth expending any mental energy over. Over-thinking these things takes all the fun out of it, Janny.

In kayfabe terms, I assume holding a title means a bigger paycheck and/or better standing in the company, so that could be part of it. It could also (again, in kayfabe terms) be the prestige of being a title holder, no matter what said title actually is. But otherwise, yeah, it doesn't make a ton of sense because it seems like being the 24/7 champion would be far more stress-inducing than not being the 24/7 champion.

But I'm with Paddlefoot...best not to overthink it, because otherwise that will ruin the ridiculousness of a title that can change hands (twice!) on a golf course on Sunday afternoon.

Main eventers have no reason to care but it makes sense why undercarders would chase after it. It gets them attention and hopefully they can use that as a stepping stone for something better.

I suggested elsewhere that the holder of the 24/7 title should get the number 30 spot in the Rumble at least. If anything else it could make for some fun backstage skits at the Rumble PPV, with heaps of guys and girls both trying to the best spots in the Rumbles.

All they have to say is If someone can hold the title for X amount of days straight, they get a bonus of X amount of dollars.

How about 7 days for $10,000? That way, itd make sense for the most action to be on Monday/Tuesday but you couldnt count out shenanigans on a day off.

Or 30 days for $25,000? Or $1,000 for every 24 hour period?

Or, whoever holds it the longest amount of days/hours/minutes until the Rumble, they get that 30th spot like was already suggested? Or a free title shot at the US or Intercontinental title if they have a certain amount of days? Like if you can hold it for 7 days straight, you get a title shot at the mid card belt of your choosing.

This is why the 24/7 Hardcore title wouldnt have worked today if it was a fresh idea: we all have the same nitpick with the concept of why? for the title. And we know were not the only one who has that nitpick. Like, when Crash Holly stopped winning the Hardcore title, he was rewarded with a run in the Lightweight division WWE pretended to care about only a little before being released. They do that today, all of our questioning of whats the point would join into a large cluster of the same question by everyone else and the 24/7 rule dies quickly.

Give a tangible reward. Hold the title for a month, then you get a title shot of your choosing.

Which, unfortunately, WWE would go to that well TOO much and wed have a long series of people holding the title for a month to get title shots. And itd get stale.

From the no, of course were not concerned by AEW! file, the second NXT UK takeover event has been announced for August 31, which just so happens to be the same date as All Out, AEWs second PPV. But Im sure thats just a coincidence.

Also, after selling the War Games match and trademark to WWE, MLW has announced that their debut event in Dallas this September will include something called the War Chamber. No details yet on what exactly this is, but will be interesting to see what they intend to do and perhaps how close they can get without crossing any legal lines.

It's also the same day as NJPW Royal Quest, their first major event in Europe. A very eventful day for wrestling.

POTENTIAL RAW SPOILER:

According to sources, the plan is for Brock Lesnar to prevail in his cash in tonight and become Universal Champion. Again.

Its definitely not a coincidence but theres more to it than simply AEW. Summerslam probably is best served with a bit of a wide birth and it (along with NXT Florida) is 3 weeks before that. Pushing it back into September brings it into football season.

No matter what, football season is the first priority for when WWE counter programs something. Im sure they got a laugh out of it because it allows them to stick it to AEW, but it also seems like the 31st makes a ton of sense so the NFL can be avoided.

*Also, there was a fan incident at an ROH show. A fan apparently was heckling Velvet Sky and two other female wrestlers. The fan claims that Velvet Sky got in his face and called him a pussy and a "virgin". At this point, the guy says he would rather be a virgin than have to fuck "that fat turd Bully Ray". After the match, security comes and gets the fan and escorts him to a backroom and leaves. Bully Ray then comes in pissed off and yells at the guy an tells him he has to respect the women and "don't say anything you wouldn't say to your mom". He then says "go be a fan" and leaves. The fan is then escorted back to his seat, confused and scared shitless. This all gained traction when he posted his story to Twitter and "Bully Ray" started trending worldwide.

And there are witnesses on two sides of this incident. One side says the guy was doing some light heckling and name-calling that you'd expect to see at a wrestling show. The other side says the guy was being an obnoxious douche, yelling and cussing the entire show and being one of those fans that makes the show less entertaining to everyone around him.

The consensus being that either way, taking a fan backstage to be scolded by one of the wrestlers is not the correct way to address the issue. If the first camp is right and the guy was just trying to play along with the heels, the wrestlers shouldn't have taken offense and nothing should've came of it. If the second camp is right and the guy was ruining the enjoyment for others, security should've been involved to warn him and possibly escort him out if things continued.

Regarding the next NXT UK TakeOver occurring on the same day as AEW's next PPV, Triple H was asked about it during his post-TakeOver XXV conference call and said they had that date booked way in advance before AEW announced that All Out would be on August 31st, and that the UK TakeOver will air in the afternoon in the US, so it's not even going directly head to head with All Out.

So yeah, assuming Triple H isn't bullshitting, it's just a coincidence that both shows are happening on the same day.

Fan's version of what went down here:

https://411mania.com/wrestling/fan-bully-ray-incident-live-event/

Classic. Gotta give him credit for "tramp-stamp trio" as a nickname for Velvet/Angelina/Mandy Leon. Maybe Vel-Vel heard something he said wrong, if he's telling the truth about how it happened. Given the sort of crap that got said to other women like Lita over the years this comes off as kind of tame in comparison and doesn't justify Bubba Ray scaring the crap out of the dude, unless he's some kind of rabid type of fan that they've had run-ins with prior to this incident.

Man, ROH is having a tough year. AEW takes away a few of their big players, their big MSG show only highlights were provided by NJPW, the Enzo/Cass debut was a bust and now this.

It's even more fascinating/ironic given that Bubba did one of the greatest heel promos of all time when he singled out a teenage girl at an ECW show and quite literally said to her that "her mother taught her how to suck dick". Like, there's no way in hell that fan at the center of the ROH incident could have said anything more offensive than that.

I'm honestly not even watching the show tonight. My disinterest in Brock is that high. If something cool happens, I'll watch the Youtube.

My hope is that Brock cashes in, Corbin tries to help and accidentally causes a DQ, and then we get Brock murdering Corbin on and off through the summer.
