Bandersnatch (Netflix)

What a fucking masterpiece!

It's been a long, long time since I enjoyed something not wrestling that much. So many great touches, every single litle thing meant something, and the overarching point is made beautifully.

Would I be right in thinking many of us here are of the age that choose your own adventure books and Speccys were a staple of childhood?

My wife is a big Black Mirror fan, so she got me to watch this yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed it and being a video game fan who grew up in the 80s, the subject matter was definitely right up my alley. And I ended up making some different choices than she did, so she got to see some different scenes than on her first go-round, which was cool.

I think my only minor qualm was that if you made the "wrong" choice, it would seem to redirect you back at some point and make you re-choose. That kind of took away from it feeling like a true "choose your own adventure" type of experience, but otherwise I thought the whole thing was extremely well done.

Careful dude, a lot of people, including "pro critics", are making fools of themselves by not getting the point..

I won't say any more as I don't want to spoil it for anyone. The amount of detail and the subtlety is staggering, even for a Black Mirror title.

Add my name to the "thought it was outstanding" list.

I had only a passing familiarity with "Black Mirror," but my wife is a big fan and talked me into watching it. I did notice some cases in which it felt like the movie ignored a choice we made, or went back and forced us to make the "right" choice, but the sheer innovation of the format more than makes up for it. I'll be interested to see what comes out from other filmmakers these next few years now that it's been proven this format can work.

It's amazing they nailed so much character development despite the way the story is told. Also, I'm not sure if this is what Spinner was talking about but there is one scene that basically explains why so many choices just threw you back to a previous scene.

I guess its long enough now that it's not a spoiler, but the whole point of Bandersnatch is to leave you thinking "I didn't really have any control".
