Twitter

Anyone here into this new-fangled thing the kids call the twitter?

I started an account a few years ago to bitch publicly at an airline that left me in England... oddly enough that worked out far better and quicker for me than several lengthy letters back and forth ever did.

I then promptly dropped it because I hate texting, and twitter just felt like texts that a whole bunch of people you could care less about faun over meets popularity race... Pus lots and lots of bitching.

About a month ago I dusted off the account because I followed a few links here or there that were tweets and saw some decent stuff on there... Figured I'd tip my toes in the waters once again and see what it's like to make sure the whole world knows what I think about everything (yeah, most don't care).

Lot's of shit on there... I mean I expected the politics and divisiveness meets total nonsense (Williamsl kinda summed things up better than I could over in the dumb friends thread that went up the other day)... and hey, it's there in spades. I learned about, or at least saw that it has a name anyway, this thing called Comicsgate, and there's a whole host of comics creators and other celebs like James Woods, or Dean Cain that I am now conflicted about given how hard they seem to double down on hate politics... Although I did send Woods a lovely tweet the other day about how awesome I though he was being by doing so much good with the terrible fires down in California.

On the flip side I've swapped DM's with some of my favourite comics people; had many exchanges with them publicly too... Came across a host of talents I hadn't seen much of in the past but definitely will seek out their work now (David Mack personally welcoming me to twitter was super cool). On the wrestling front I've had several exchanges with Ryback over him seeing the title as just a prop for money and whereas I argued that prop or not; there's a certain investiture in some props that is required for them to serve their purpose... Nice enough due although he liked my tweets but then an hour later took one part of my tweet out of context and insulted me... I think he probably just lost track of what he was doing, lol.

I got some likes from John Glover, Rob Schneider, Vincent D'onofrio... although the coolest was probably from Becky Lynch.... and by coolest I mean some stranger glanced over thousands of tweets and hit a button a few hundred times once they discerned that I and many others weren't telling them how fat they are, or how much the world hates them.

So that's been me in the last month on there... That's my rambly way of building up to asking any cool interactions for those other people on twitter? Any cool people worth following?

I got on twitter a couple years ago, to enter a contest, didn't win, but kept my account. Currently have 7 followers and following 74, so not a ton of activity.

Basically I just follow a ton of the Marvel actors, who post fun things, along with raising awareness about different social topics, mainly Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo. Chris Pratt posts a lot of stuff about his farm.

Anna Kendrick and Ryan Reynolds post some funny stuff, but not a ton.

Then I follow some people who post about political stuff, (Patton Oswalt, Chrissy Teigen).

But my favorites are probably a handful of porn stars, who post some interesting shit, usually not about porn, but silly things they do outside of porn.

I use Twitter to get breaking news and follow breaking stories mostly. I'll check my feed in the morning to catch up on the latest news and shit that happened over night.

I follow a few interesting accounts, but nothing spectacular. I don't really tweet or DM anyone.

I'm a loser.

I've had twitter since 2008 and still can't figure it out. Too loud and jumbly with a bunch of dead thoughts that should have stayed in the can. Very strange place. I deleted Facebook about that same time for much of the same reasons. Haven't regretted it one bit. I think social media to people in my age bracket still comes off as dry-snitching. And who wants to that?

That being said - and the reason I jumped in here - is because I've learned to *love* Instagram. Does anybody have any IG accoint here they're not ashamed to announce? I follow PB-13 from here but he doesn't post enuff. IG is the best IMO becausw purtty pixtures. I like dem. People can still manufacture mindless memes and crap, but i think it cuts down drastically on lame grocery store shopping lists tweets or other inane thoughts. At least it requires you to post a picture for the caption.

Anybody here use Instagram?

I do, but only to identify potential school shooters.

I can't get into twitter. I tried but it doesn't scratch any itches for me. I'm on FB regularly partly because I use it for my music stuff, but I get annoyed at myself for how often I'm on there and waste time doing jack.

I hop on instagram about once or twice a week but only post about once every month or two. My girlfriend created an IG profile for our puppy and we both post things on that account in the puppy's voice. The puppy's IG only follows other dogs, so when I'm having a shitty day, I go on her IG and just scroll down all these photos of dogs being cute and shit. It's the best.

I use my main Twitter for sports news and board game news. If something big is happening in actual news, folks I follow often tweet about it or RT news sources.

My 2nd Twitter is for porn. Because porn perfromers are some interesting people.

One terrible thing about Twitter (and most social media) is the non-chronological timelines. For a while Twitter did a “you may have missed this” section near the top of your timeline, but otherwise, everything was in order.

I have Facebook, and mostly use it for board games. I try and keep my friend count low, and avoid adding family members. The worst is request from folks I haven’t seen in a decade and won’t see again until a funeral.

Instagram is 100% used for posting about, and learning about board games. It’s the place where I follow the most folks, but still cull people when their post are less than 50% board games. It’s intersting to see what games really are the hotness and hitting actual tables.

There's a whole etiquette thing about twitter that I'm still trying to crack... like apparently women don't want you tweeting dick pics at them?

Kidding aside how threads branch out and everyone gets into separate arguments, or copied on everything evades me and/or drives me nuts... like if it's a multitweet post people will respond to each post individually instead of just responding at the end of the chain... Comics writer Kurt Busiek (rightfully?) snarked at me the other day as he was joking about how people just forcefully offer there opinions about books at people... Some guy then said he didn't like LOTR books and it seemed like a whole other branching subtweet thing was going on as he jokingly responded back to the guy and I threw in my two cents... if you followed the branch he comes off heavy handed, but if you go by the first tweet he's 100% in the right... Not that it's a big deal, just something that just happened that provided a suitable example to what I was talking about in part anyway.

I've avoided any and all social media for a long time now; so this was new... it's still keeping me entertained, although sometimes jokes fall flat when dissected by anyone who can see them and pick them apart... Not sure if it will hold my interest for too long as I've found since I've been doing the twitter thing my OO posting has gone down; and at least here for good or bad you know who the players are and give a bit more leeway if something doesn't fly quite as well... ie would give a bit more benefit of the doubt.

As much as it also doesn't seem to matter I feel like a bit of a loser with only like 30 followers... although my reactions are mixed whenever some stranger who's not a bot or some big website/podcast follows me... it's like who is this person? I also refuse to follow anyone who just retweets stuff without adding any of themselves into it... a retweet for some stuff makes sense, but when you see that's all someone's feed is made up of it's like "here's a bunch of stuff that will make you think I'm clever".

Oh yeah... ditto on the porn starlets; they seem to have some great tweets; although best tweet I think I saw was from a comedienne named Sarah Beattie... something like your porn name is your 18 digit credit card number plus the expiration date and number on the back... you go first.... meh, made me laugh.

I have 7.... but I get excited when someone likes one of my few tweets/replies to someone I am following, or even better when one of the people I follow actually replies to me.

But for the most part, I don't read the replies to the original tweet, so I guess I am missing most of the bad stuff on twitter.

Wow, so this caught steam again...

So by way of an update I'm up to a big wopping 58 followers now... Woo-hoo, my life has meaning!

Actually in the last 24 ish hours I had a joke I cracked "liked" by Mark McKinney from the Kids in the Hall and an actual response from Charisma Carpenter... So one of them is a long time celeb crush and the other is Charisma Carpenter... durp... Okay the KITH on was probably cooler as given my age and being a Canuck that's way cooler given their legendary status.

I can't remember if I wrote about this or not... it's after 5am and I haven't been to bed yet, but I managed to get into a "fight" with Dan Fogler from Walking Dead and Fantastic Beasts... and by "fight" I mean he kinda accidentally stepped into a long standing issue in the comics biz about pay and a bunch of people jumped on him... When I tried to be the sensible intermediary in the fray he wound up retweeting me several times which then lead to an exchange between he and I... Ended well as he called me a cool and reasonable dude.

I've chatted with a host of comics "legends" and pros... Walt Simonson, Ron Marz, Scott Snyder, Phil Jiminez, and Nicola Scott of late; so that's cool.

I also get called an idiot a lot... I'm a pretty left wing but not burn all conservatives type that can generally see the centre... I do tend to speak out a lot when I see people's rights get trampled or spoken down to... So I've been called an SJW a few times... which as a white guy I'd rank up there with being called a honky in terms of it being a "huh" type burn... I'm not a fan of the overly SJW-y SJW's that need to pick a fight with everything but I also think as far as being called an SJW as a burn goes "hey you who speaks out about human rights" kinda lands with the force of a butterfly on a gentle summer breeze.

I've also noticed a trend... it's generally not worth it to write anything more than 1 post long in a political thread... No one reads the full text in the first post even before hate tweeting at you anyway. I've also noticed that if you go onto a conservative thread it's all liberals/others bashing them, and on more liberal/green/NDP threads it's all conservatives bashing them... Both sides are capable of stupidity, but as with the Dem/GOP split IMO the conservative side often sound dumber as most of their shit seems to be "WE GOTTA KEEP THE IMMIGRANTS OUT" or some other BS.

Generally if I get called an idiot or see something stupid my personal rule is to give a quick scan of that persons other tweets... Most times I don't even bother replying as the stupidity they are inflicted with seems to be lifelong.... Although gotta say twitter kinda lets you peek into a few dark corners I don't normally visit in terms of radicalized twitter idiots posting pics of Trudeau being beheaded and white nationalism shit... Kinda makes the world a bit more depressing.

ETA: If you just picked up a spider-pig follower that's me

I very rarely retweet anything, so I'm fairly safe to follow back if you so choose... I mostly just comment in threads, so however that shows up in other feeds.

- I "like" getting likes but I could care less about having any followers; I'm not active enough or able to be trendy enough to get any followers anyway

- I got a couple of likes from Bill Oakley from The Simpsons for recalling a couple of specifically hilarious moments from the show and posting pics of them; I seem to have that kind of weird memory where I can recall an insane moment from things like Seinfeld, Simpsons, Star Trek, etc. with perfect clarity but can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday

- I thought I'd gotten a genuine like from Becky Lynch a couple of times but unfortunately they were just from those bloody clone accounts that copy the person's account perfectly but are missing the blue checkmark for verification

- I got banned for a couple of days after telling a particularly obnoxious MAGA that he should be taken out behind the chemical sheds and shot right between the eyes with a piece of his own shit; fuckers didn't let me post again until I deleted that "threat"

- my proudest accomplishment is that I've been blocked by several hard-left snowflakes from the Ontario NDP for giving them shit for their hideous comments about Remembrance Day during the last provincial election

- I've also been blocked by some genuine right-wing scum like Jack Posobiec, Paul Joseph Watson, and a handful of regular pro-Trump users; it's basically my South Park moment in that I don't bother to disguise how much I fucking detest them all so them blocking me is essentially a victory

- I follow a few fun accounts like DogRates and FloridaMan but I'm really just there to see what Jeb Lund is doing at any given moment because he usually pins/retweets some good stuff

- my record for most likes for a single post was around a hundred during the infamous #SecondCivilWar thread for some comment I made about the Confederate commanders at Mar-A-Lago stealing all the medical care for their wounded troops to treat their own genital warts instead

There's a pretty funny parody account called @jumpinjimg69 that's worth a follow. Full disclosure: it's NOT me, nor anyone I know behind the account, but I have been referenced on it a couple of times. It will make you chortle.

So I didn't know where to stick this... (What am I Goon on his wedding night?) but just as a follow up to my "I got a like on twitter from Mark McKinney for a joke I told" non-story...

I got to top this last Tuesday night.

Thanks to the miracle of twitter I found out that Kevin McDonald of Kids in the Hall fame was doing a one man show in Toronto... Not just Toronto, but at the Rivoli which if you've read One Dumb Guy the new KITH biography/memoir written by Mike Myers brother (and very much worth a read if you are a fan) the Rivoli is where the Kids first broke out, so it was a nice homecoming. McDonald said that his 7pm show was sold out, but the 10pm had no ticket sales yet... please come.

So I made the hour plus trip into Toronto and along the way managed to get my buddy to join in on the fun; Nice place, and despite no ticket sales the day before it was very much sold out and standing room only by that night; nonetheless I was in and we scored some very sweet seats. Fantastic one-ish (he had a guitarist on stage with him) man show that despite the best efforts of a drunken woman who very much tried to make each bit about her (Kev is pro enough that he just rolled with it) was just awesome.

Best part... Totally unbeknownst to the audience before Kevin went on fellow KITH alumni Bruce McCulloch came out and did a ten minute riff off the top of his head about masterbating in front of his dog... er... great stuff? Okay it was.

Post show I managed to catch Kevin before he left and even got him to sign my copy of One Dumb Guy (Bruce must've scrammed out the back door) and shake his hand... The night would've ended well there had I not decided for some reason to tell him about my dick... more specifically something I like to call "turtle dick"... As men some of us are growers and some of us are show-ers... and sometimes we all have those please don't walk in on us while naked moments. Now I'm a bit of a husky fella and sometimes what happens is that little bit of upper thigh fat likes to push them there testicles up... not into the body, but vertically upwards. At the same time the belly fat, and sub belly fat says screw you I'm pushing back... you shall not pass testes! This upward and downward push creates a bit of fat vortex that from time to time lays claim to the penis when he ain't having a good day... giving you the proverbial button a fur coat look for junior... or a turtles head poking out from time to time... Hence "turtle dick".

Now in my defense Kevin did do a whole set wherein he talked about being so afraid one time that his penis retreated inside his body which somehow lead to him peeing inside himself (I've never done that)... but I did still walk away asking my buddy if I just met one of the Kids in the Hall; a group I'd mention in the same breath as Monty Python, SNL, and SCTV alumni and then proceeded to tell him about my penis.

Yes, sadly yes.

So my trend of walking away thinking I've entirely embarrassed myself in front of yet another celeb continues... I mean maybe not as bad as jumping sweatily out of a bush with my pants falling down to meet Jericho, making Rocket Richard run away from me, getting awkward with Mick Foley, or pressing my bare nipple flesh against some glass to get that Mmmbop Hanson bands attention (I don't even drink... ).

Anyway... Saw two Kids in the Hall life and got to meet one... Still a good night
