Tough call; will have to think about it a while before voting. Two of the best ones left in terms of being fitting.

I guess this counts as a sig.

Edge's for fitting so well with the entire package.

The lamelittle smokeshow instead of pyro, trenchcoat and sunglasses combo six years after the Matrix, and that buttrock song all came together to make Edge look like a smug prick who was trying too hard.

Granted, feuding with Cena, Edge still came off as cool by comparison.

I'm still bitter about the Freebirds knocking the Horsemen's theme out of the tournament, so I'm voting Edge.

When I think of the Freebirds it's not Badstreet USA that I hear in my mind it's "Prince's of the Universe" by Queen... Give me a fanny pack and I'll think of Hayes (and now Doot doot doot) but that theme of Edges is just totally him.

What evidence is there of Edge being racist? Or is it Alter Bridge that is racist?

i knew that allegation and I know you like pairing up guys, gals or teams with something in common, so I figured the clever word play in the title meant that this was a contest of racists. It's nice to know that isn't the case.

That said, the racist has the better theme song.

For what it's worth is Hayes a racist? I know he was said to be fond of a certain N-word that lead to his widely reported confrontation with Mark Henry where he drunkenly told Henry that he (Hayes) was more of a N*gger than him. I've always gotten the sense that he was probably more dumb and misguided about some of this stuff than a full on racist.

I wonder if his being Southern and his in ring use of the Confederate flag helps play into this being easier to paint him with that brush than say Andre, Flair, or Austin who all have had equally appalling comments and in some cases accused actions levelled at them.

I know this rounds title was a just a play on each wrestlers respective histories and monikers, but just with the various responses it made me wonder if there's a difference between being a full on racists and being dumb, naive, oblivious, or misguided on the harm we can do to others by poorly considered comments (like Hayes commented on their use of the Confederate flag in their act in response to Charlottesville and for as much as he's trying to make sense or be diplomatic it's clear he is clearly missing the larger issue).

There are degrees of racism, ranging from the slightest of thoughts that are never acted on or verbalized to a full-on endorsement of genocide, with 99.99999% of racism we encounter falling between those two poles. That includes the use of the n-word. Now, does one "documented" act or verbalization of racism necessitate one being labeled a racist? Eye of the labeler, I suppose.

As for the reasons why, I get what you mean. Not every racist is an active racist, e.g.; going to rallies, getting swastika tattoos, reading The Turner Diaries as personal motivation, etc. Some grew up in towns or families where these views were instilled. That said, the latter group still have the personal obligation to examine themselves, recognize their shortcomings, and work on logically purging these sentiments from their minds rather than perpetuating racism through willful ignorance.

I also recognize that times change and what was once acceptable no longer is. Hayes' confederate flag robe was a staple of his identity and while such a thing would never fly today, I can understand he doesn't want to be washed out of relevance. This was during the same time period the most popular TV show among the youth featured the Duke brothers were driving around in a car with the confederate flag on it, so Hayes was not that novel in using that imagery. That said, people are much more cognizant about these issues today and Hayes and others ought to recognize exactly why celebrating this type of imagery can be painful to many.

Not sure why I felt compelled to post all this in a theme song thread but there it is.

I guess this counts as a sig.

A somewhat relevant video from those guys who did Free Bird:

As far as reactions from a group so closely associated with the flag go, that was pretty good. You can tell they have tried to understand what people do not like that shitty flag. That's more then a lot of people do.

It's funny, ie happens every day in real life, when competing images of something take their place in every day society; The confederate flag is probably a great example of this... If you look at it from a historical or black (and those that sympathize with said) perspectives the flag is very much about racism and oppression, issues that remain very real to this day. As a competing image though many see it as this cool of act of rebellion; the South will rise again... this idea that the South said screw you to the man and thus should be celebrated... One of those two competing view points on the flag is colossally and factually wrong, the other is popular and appeals to the inner rebelliousness in all of us... It's interesting to see how people negotiate this.

Anyway, sorry to Matte for hijacking this thread a bit... I just thought the viewpoint on Hayes was interesting because yes he has a history of making racists comments but because he quacks AND looks like a racist duck with a fanny pack it's easier to see him as a one note character than say Flair who is immensely popular but has also been accused of dropping the N-bomb on guys like Teddy Long.
