Australia gets network special, HHH vs Taker announced

In 2018, six years after their “end of an era” Hell in a cell match, HHH and Taker will face off for the FINAL FINAL time in October 2018 at the super show-down, live from the Melbourne cricket ground.

https://instagram.com/p/BkFUfe7Aon-/

Notice there’s no Lesnar on the advert... guess he’ll be long gone by then.

Hopefully this is a little more important than the GRR, although it will start at approximately 4am East Coast time...

Well, this would be more of a standard show rather than a filfthy rich family paying for everything so it'd make sense they'd hold off on the crazy amount of top stars they packed into SA.

I wonder if the CW division will get some spotlight with home country boy Buddy Murphy.

Between Orton and HHH, I wonder who is the more methodical and unexciting wrestler?
Those 2 would make the all time "bore" lists for sure.

Atleast HHH has his 00-01 prime where he was one of the best in the world before the quad injury.

Orton has always been bland with no sizzle.

Not really sure if I want to see Trips vs Taker at all. For its depth and quality, its still a huge testament to exactly how little "star power" the current roster has.

Along with Buddy Murphy, they also have other Aussie wrestlers including Billie Kay, Payton Royce, and TM61 from NXT. And Dakota Kai is from New Zealand. I would like to assume that each of them will be part of the show.

Looking forward to the loud "we want Emma!" chants as the crowd hijacks whatever women's match is on the card.

This will legitimately be the largest WWE event ever. Melbourne Cricket Ground holds over 100k before you put people in the pitch/field. Record crowd of 100,021 for an Aussie rules football match should be easily surpassed. Depending on stage set up, they could clear a legit 105k.

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce should use sandpaper to win a match. That would be some epic trolling of the crowd.

Sorry. Most of you aren't cricket fans but any Brits and Aussies would get it. And I am just kidding

As a proper 'Murican, a piece of shit Floridian no less, I'm assuming your sandpaper comment has to do with Billie and Peyton being rough and tumble descendants of inelegant criminal savages that would be ignorant the benefits of a full Brazilian blowout.

Also, every time I see your name "Shashwat" when you post I think of a certain song. So congrats, this is your entrance music in my mind whenever you show up. You're welcome.

Also2, I'm old. Gimmie some old skool Taker vs. HHH. I don't give a shit about workrate or burials or giving the rub to a younger generation bullsquat. Just gimmie some fuckin' dinosaurs playing slap and tickle in front of a bunch of wild-eyed didgeridoo suckers and I'm happy.

To the first sentence , I wouldn't know where to begin. As I wrote in my post, it has to do with cricket.

But since there are sinister insinuations I will clarify:

Cricket is a really really big deal is Australia. And in India and England as well. And there are strong rivalries. Then this happened -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Australian_ball-tampering_scandal

As a resident of the 3rd world, I leave the references of race/civilization etc usually to some members of the 1st. I don't much care where anyone is from.

Thank you for the entrance song

In my mind I am usually here with the exploration music of the Elder Scrolls' Oblivion.

Around 2003 my wife, her sister and I were driving to pick up some booze and smoking cigarettes and this song came on my mix cd (cigarettes, mix discs, you know....the good ol’ days). Coincidentally enough, it was on a Tuesday night.

OO poster from Melbourne, Australia here.

I believe this to be super ambitious show with overly-ambitious expectations. WWE usually holds events at Rod Laver arena (known by most as one of the venues for the Australian Open tennis) with a capacity of 14,820. The MCG is a *monumental* jump in stadium gravitas. Sight lines at the MCG aren't that great to begin with, and they will be awful for a small ring in the middle of a cricket pitch with the stands far back from the ring.

Have a look at this:

The AFL "centre square" in the middle of the pitch above is 50 m by 50 m. The WWE ring is 20" by 20", so lets be generous and say that the ring and ringside is 10 m by 10 m in the middle of that 50 m by 50 m box you see in the photo. The MCG is one of the bigger cricket pitches at 171 m x 146 m. All of that will be filled up by flat, ground-level temporary seating, then begins the "first row" of hard seats that you see in the picture which will be looking at a ring ~65 m/213 feet away on the short side, and ~78 m /255 feet away on the long side (behind the AFL goals). The lower level stands are deep, which pushes the viewer back even farther as you move towards the back rows. You have a couple of intermediary levels, and then you have the enormous upper deck. The 23,000 seats in the MCC Members section (the 4 sections from top to bottom around 2 o'clock on the photo above) aren't for sale to the general public. So many of the logistics and intangibles point to this not delivering anywhere near 100K. State of Origin Game 1 pulled 87K at the MCG, and that's one of the premium sporting events in the country that attracts significant interstate travelers.

And with Melbourne, never discount the threat of inclement weather. Octobers average 14 days of rain with an average of 65mm for the month (the second-highest monthly average): https://www.holiday-weather.com/melbourne/averages/. I would never, ever trust Melbourne weather with the success or failure of an outdoor event.

The AFL Grand Final is the Saturday before on 29 September, and very few coming from interstate will hang around a full week to go the WWE the following weekend. (If they were looking for a downdraft effect from the Grand Final, having it on the Sunday following the Saturday Grand Final would have been genius.) Etihad stadium with a capacity of ~55K, a retractable roof, a smaller pitch, and superior sight lines would have been a far superior choice, especially for a glorified house show. UFC 193 with Holm knocking out Ronda was held at Etihad and the had a record UFC attendance of 56K:

Also, the roof structure at Etihad allowed for video screens to be hung which helped fans see the action. The WWE would have to erect such screens as a freestanding structure over the ring. The stadium screens in the MCG are at the top of the stadium as you can see in the photo and wouldn't be much help for those looking towards the ring to see the action.

One positive is that it is the final weekend of Term 3 school holidays in Victoria so kids and parents will be free to attend.

I won't attend just because it will likely be a shitty fan experience at the MCG. My only hope is that there is an NXT Takeover on the Friday before. The WWE can take my money hand over fist for a superior show in a better setting.

To get anything over 60-65K, they will have to paper this show like a roving band of TP'ing teenagers on Halloween.

Where did you here about HIAC (I assume you mean Hell in a Cell). The previous Network special will be the annual HIAC PPV Sept/16 (from Nashville). No way they can secure the cell or cage at the MCG

I heard a rumour on an Australian FB wrestling page Ringside will $1000 with nosebleeds going for $50.

I've been a Wrestling fan for as long as I can remember and I live in Perth, Australia (it's 3.5 hour flight for me). I think I would enjoy attending a WWE PPV, but I'm so down on the current product that I can't even be bothered to pay $USD10 a month for a PPV.

I think they are going to struggle with this.

vonLampertheim, the Friday night before hand MCW will be holding a show. MCW are the home promotion of Buddy Murphy and Emma, (TM61 and Peyton Royce have also worked there). I attended MCW x Progress event earlier this year. I highly recommend checking them out. Easily one of the top promotions in Australia.

I also think they will struggle, and even if they paper the show the fan experience will SUCK. They have definitely bit off more than they can chew with this, and if the temperamental Melbourne weather does its thing, this could be a monumental bust. I will be watching this from my couch on the Network even though I live less than 10 km from the MCG. At least I'll be able to see what is happening in the ring and not paying top dollar (or getting altitude sickness) to see little specs in a squared circle.

Thanks also for the MCW tip. I've been meaning to check them out, and if there's no NXT show I'll definitely look into this. DM me if you end up coming into town for that.

Cheers.

Too bad Enzo's no longer with them. It would be worth the arrest to live up to the traditions of the venue and wing a cricket ball right at his head.
