Fixed

I believe this is fixed, now.

What happened was that we hit the magical number of 32767 thread titles (although some 4000 have been deleted as spam or as part of the unjebbening)... and in databases, 32767 is the product of two prime numbers representing some upper limit of blah blah blah bal.

Until you change the setting that tells the software to employ "small integer" limitations, and use "integer" instead.

Who knew 32,767 was "small"?

Rick

PS: All your posts to the "empty" threads seem to have been assigned to thread #32767 (the Government Shutdown one). Feel free to repopulate the empty husks with your original message. And edit them out of the gov't shutdown thread, if you wheeeeeel. Thanks.

Thanks for looking into that problem, and for fixing it, too.

I know that the three missing posts were assigned to the Government Shutdown thread, but none of them appeared there. They just seem to be missing, which is fine with me. I don't think it's worth the time and effort to try to find them, but I am mentioning it in case you might like to know that.

Hey Rick;

I think we maybe still have a bit of a glitch- just posted in the government shut down post and got that empty title but no thread thing going on... weird thing is if you go to the main board you can see that I posted last, it's just that the thread doesn't exist (for me anyway) anymore.

Flash, that's strange that you can't see anything in the Government Shutdown thread. I just went to look and I can see the entire thread, include your post:

I saw this a few weeks ago and I thought it was really interesting, and while not porn or government shut down related it does kind of carry on with that theme of if you aren't with us, or 100% against the "enemy" then you are against us.

https://youtu.be/3WMuzhQXJoY

In a nutshell it's the story of how noted feminist Cassie Jaye opted to do a documentary on MRA's and in the course of filming said documentary had to confront a lot of her own biases... that once she started listening instead of just hearing people talk it started to change her own opinions. She doesn't find all MRA's are right, nor does she call herself a feminist anymore instead choosing to believe that both sides need to do more listening to one another as many of their aims are the same.

I'm going to mess up the quote and am too lazy to look it up; but I remember Orson Scott Card; a note anti-gay marriage advocate and noted Sci-Fi writer (Ender's game) said something to the effect that it will be interesting to see, now that gay marriage is legalized, how those who were against it are treated given that they were also exercising their freedom of speech. Now I'm pro-gay marriage and don't really think there are any good arguments against letting two people marry (civilly, I don't think churches should be forced to perform any marriage they don't choose to) and enjoying the rights that all people should be given, and I think Card's argument is a bit bullshit in that this wasn't a matter of disagreement over what colour to paint a room, but instead one group of people trying to deny rights to another.... BUT; it did give me some pause to think that we as human beings are bound to bump into one another beliefs, ideologies, sense of safety and well being and all those other wonderful things that make us human... and if we want to live in a free society that does also pull up those who do not currently enjoy a full and equal seat at the great human table of acceptance we also have to be prepared to listen to stuff that might cause us to prickle a bit... I personally want to know who the assholes are so who I know who to avoid... I want to hear dissenting opinions to my own so that my own may be challenged, tested, and strengthened... that maybe not on a gay marriage, or male versus female issue I might not agree, but at least there may be points where we can find common ground instead of just shouting each other down.

About a year ago I put up a thread with a title like "am I a bigot or a racist" wherein I talked about sometimes finding the "other" challenging... some of it was done tongue in cheek, some of it was an honest attempt at dialogue about how lost I, and probably others, have come to be in this modern society... maybe not the day to day; I still live in a predominantly white mostly non-evangelical Christian city with no gay bars, no obvious trans people, and no ethnic neighbourhoods that openly embrace their culture (like a little Italy thing)... I've always been moderate; against guns, violence, open to new cultures, religions, and gay rights but what largely seemed like BIG CITY and internet debates about all the smaller stuff... like CIS being a word now, or bathroom debates, or being bad for eating meat or being frustrated with agendas being shoved in my face would give me panic attacks, then make me angry at not being able to feel right about what side to pick or choose....

I endeavoured to grow, to learn and just before Christmas I found myself talking to my far younger cousin at a Christmas party and he was not being bigoted but maybe also expressing a lot of the same feelings I had before... that's when I heard myself say that if you do meet that guy wearing a dress and who wants to be called Lulu it is okay to look when confronted with something new... don't worry about the he, she thing but call her Lulu if that is what she wants to be called... at the end of the day they're a person (I've always believed that) and eventually like all new things it will become the new normal... treat people as people, not by their best, worst, oddest, or thing that makes them different thing.... lifting people up makes us all better.

Someone, or rather a lot of people, should have taken the time to listen to August Ames reasons... at the end of the day she may have been right or wrong; but at least they would have heard her out and seen that maybe her reasons weren't meant to alienate, but were instead about safety... you might not agree with her viewpoint, but should at least agree with her right to choose who she shares her body with even professionally... Who knows; maybe if she wasn't mass-condemned, or shamed she might be alive today to learn more about her own decision... to rethink it, to solidify it, or to just add another opinion to these debates that might allow someone else to make a more informed decision down the line.

One thing I do know; twitter is not the place for these kind of discussions... big ideas should not be condensed down to 140 characters.

I think there are issues with Flash's posts. I just tried to look at the last post on the Government shutdown thread, which was his post and when I clicked on the "Go to last post" the thread was empty, when I click on the thread title, everything was there.

Yet, the "Go to Last Post" arrow in the 2018 Movie Roundup thread - which is a Flash post - works just fine.
