Republicans are corporate shills, so they govern that way. Employees not doing what you want? Things not going your way? Shut the store down

Sen. McCaskill tried to pass bill guaranteeing military pay and death benefits during shutdown. Leader McConnell: I object.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, introduced a pair of bills to ensure that if the government shuts down, members of the military will get paid and members of Congress will not.

^^^^^^^^

Any Republican that wants to tell you how “the Democrats are holding the military hostage,” “the Democrats don’t care about the troops,” etc is completely full of shit.

And when only 45 Republicans voted to move forward with this spending bill (several voted against, while it was only with the help of several red-State Democrats that it reached the 50 votes it did), them calling Democrats “obstructionists” after the events of 2009-16 is goddamn hysterical.

What are the GOP upset about anyway? They thoroughly loved the last shutdown they did back in 2013. It gave them the opportunity to trot out a few World War Two veterans in wheelchairs and take them to all the closed memorials in DC that "that meany Obama had deliberately shut down on the Greatest Generation" for some photo-ops. Given what they've said most of the time since the Reagan years about "strangling the government in it's crib" I thought they were only interested in getting rid of the government anyway and not interested at all in doing any actual governing. And, no, abolishing Planned Parenthood and getting rid of as many regulations as possible to make it easier to dump toxic waste anywhere and everywhere doesn't exactly count as governing.

What Is Killing The Great Porn Stars Of Jizz Valley?

There's been like an epidemic of porn star deaths since November. Latest one occurred this weekend:

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/01/fifth-adult-film-actress-found-dead-in-the-past-three-months/

quote:
Adult actress Olivia Lua was found dead at a California rehab facility on Thursday morning, making this the fifth adult film actress to die in the past three months.

Lua’s agency, the L.A. Direct models, confirmed her death in a statement.

“Much comment has been recently made on the number of adult stars having passed in the last year and with great sadness, we must inform that the list has grown longer. We learned today that Olivia Lua passed away this morning — may she rest in peace,” her agency LA Direct Models confirmed in a statement Thursday.

Lua, who was 23-years-old, signed with agency back in April 2017. In their statement, the agency said she has not been working since early October due to “some personal challenges that had landed her in residential rehab.” The cause of death is still unknown.

The porn star, whose real name is Olivia Voltaire, tweeted out a photo the night before she died in an all black outfit with the caption “I feel it everywhere, nothing scares me anymore.”

The agency’s statement said Lua’s family and friends had “deep concern at the volume of prescription drugs prescribed to Olivia and the danger it posed her.”

Many fans and fellow actors took to Twitter to mourn the death of the 23-year-old actress.
Lua’s death is the fifth of several adult actresses in a span of three months. Fellow L.A. Direct Model, 20-year-old Olivia Nova, was found dead earlier this month in Las Vegas. The agency noted the two deaths were not connected to each other.

“We at Direct Models obviously can barely believe we are issuing a notice such as this, not once but twice, in such a short space of time,” the agency said.

August Ames, another porn star who appeared in over 270 films, committed suicide back in December 2017. Two days before she died, she claimed she was a victim of cyberbullying after she would not perform with a male actor who did gay pornography.

Yurizan Beltran, known as Yuri Love by her fans, died of an apparent overdose at the age of 31. Canadian porn star Shyla Stylez, 35, was found unresponsive in her bed in early November 2017.

No joking. Having five deaths in two months is like the wrasslin' biz's epidemic of overdoses/suicides that happened not too long ago. Normally the porn circuit has only one notable death per year. It's probably just one of those things, to have so many deaths at once mostly likely entirely due to the self-destructive nature of the work and the lifestyle, but it is eye-catching regardless to have this kind of a spree occur.

EDIT: not sure what happened here as I tried to start a new thread for this story but instead it directed it here to this thread for some baffling reason. Oi.

Porn is one of those weird things where it still very, very much seems to have a large contingent of the business that preys upon damaged people who's image will never again belong to them, with only a select few on camera talent making much money while faceless men in the background make far more... in the best of times it is literally a human processing plant, as the demand for new content literally causes people at their most exposed to churn out scene after scene often times pushing their own boundaries further and further (A boy girl, or girl girl scene is not enough... gotta throw in that 8 man gangbang scene with multiple dicks in multiple orifices at once...)

I'm not entirely condemning poon; I mean it would be hypocritical of me to do so (despite the weird conflicted feelings it causes me)... and what makes it "weird" is that we're very much at a time where having done porn is not necessarily a scarlet letter around a performers neck for all of time anymore... Sasha Grey and Sunny Leone seem to have reached varying degrees of main stream acceptance since leaving porn. Porn also makes a SHIT LOAD of money... and it can't all be coming from Trump....

Still; the stigma exists, the probably a touch of a messed up childhood as reasons for getting into it is likely a shade higher than your average profession, and you've got a lot of stuff being filmed in small groups in the back of some guys house who wants to keep the ladies compliant... probably a recipe for drugs. Throw in that for many transitioning to a straight job is probably still pretty hard... I remember reading a story (or maybe it was a Netflix special... that After Porn ends one they did) about one fairly major starlet who tried to leave the business a few times to work in real estate, but kept getting recognized and thus not taken seriously... stigmatized, not earning much while still having to punch a clock 9-5 meant that she was caught in a loop of going back time and time again to porn where she could make some quick money, but the shame kinda followed her again and again.

Holy shit.... did not realize August Ames died... Once I found out (a few minutes ago) I typed the most depressing and shameful thing I've ever written in my life.... "Is it wrong to masterbate to dead porn stars"... weirdly enough this seems to be a popular topic.

ETA: Looks like my post in Pad's thread also got caught up in the weird post migration thing that's happening... d'oh!

Yes, that was Raylene in After Porn Ends, that was working in real estate, but she's back in the business. Or was, at least.

Gauge had a similar story - left the biz, went to school, did well but got recognized and blacklisted. It's a sad story, and it shouldn't be this way. Mainstream celebs make amateur porn that gets leaked, and sometimes leak it themselves, and recover or even profit, but if you do it professionally, you'll never work again.

EDIT: I know that a leaked porn is not the same situation as a professional movie. Most leaked celeb movies are released involuntarily, but the Kim Ks of the world have profited off them.

Well since's we're talking porn now...

August Ames was a total babe and what happened is really unfortunate. I try not to turn every thread into a rant on SJWs..... But.... She refused to do a scene with a known gay performer. STD testing for gay porn (as far as I know of currently) is less stringent than non-gay porn. So she was like 'That's a hard pass on that."

Not sure how it came out, but it did and Tumblr and Twitter went apeshit because since she's scared of getting STDs, she clearly is homophobic. Or something. After enduring an extended attack by Social Justice Warriors for a few weeks, she tweeted "fuck y'all", and committed suicide. Ames, was of course queer, as evidenced by her fucking numerous women.

Wanna take a wild guess how certain SJWs responded? Just take a swing!

The Ames thing is a reminder that a section of the left, the SJWs as BBMN put it, only want you as an ally if you think how they want you to think, 100%, no questions asked.

Not in to dating a trans person? You are transphobic.

Don't list he / him in your social media profiles? You are CIS scum.

Don't want to be in a polygamous relationship? You are part of the patriarchy, and are a misogynist.

As far as porn and the industry...it's slowly changing in some good ways. Thanks to sites like Clips4Sale or ManyVids, a lot of porn performers can now be their own content creators and control 100% of what, when, and how they shoot.

There's still a asystem in place for the top earners, but it's slowly getting chipped away. Studios and agencies are becoming less powerful, as the industry continues to find new ways to get people to part with their money.

I saw this a few weeks ago and I thought it was really interesting, and while not porn or government shut down related it does kind of carry on with that theme of if you aren't with us, or 100% against the "enemy" then you are against us.

https://youtu.be/3WMuzhQXJoY

In a nutshell it's the story of how noted feminist Cassie Jaye opted to do a documentary on MRA's and in the course of filming said documentary had to confront a lot of her own biases... that once she started listening instead of just hearing people talk it started to change her own opinions. She doesn't find all MRA's are right, nor does she call herself a feminist anymore instead choosing to believe that both sides need to do more listening to one another as many of their aims are the same.

I'm going to mess up the quote and am too lazy to look it up; but I remember Orson Scott Card; a note anti-gay marriage advocate and noted Sci-Fi writer (Ender's game) said something to the effect that it will be interesting to see, now that gay marriage is legalized, how those who were against it are treated given that they were also exercising their freedom of speech. Now I'm pro-gay marriage and don't really think there are any good arguments against letting two people marry (civilly, I don't think churches should be forced to perform any marriage they don't choose to) and enjoying the rights that all people should be given, and I think Card's argument is a bit bullshit in that this wasn't a matter of disagreement over what colour to paint a room, but instead one group of people trying to deny rights to another.... BUT; it did give me some pause to think that we as human beings are bound to bump into one another beliefs, ideologies, sense of safety and well being and all those other wonderful things that make us human... and if we want to live in a free society that does also pull up those who do not currently enjoy a full and equal seat at the great human table of acceptance we also have to be prepared to listen to stuff that might cause us to prickle a bit... I personally want to know who the assholes are so who I know who to avoid... I want to hear dissenting opinions to my own so that my own may be challenged, tested, and strengthened... that maybe not on a gay marriage, or male versus female issue I might not agree, but at least there may be points where we can find common ground instead of just shouting each other down.

About a year ago I put up a thread with a title like "am I a bigot or a racist" wherein I talked about sometimes finding the "other" challenging... some of it was done tongue in cheek, some of it was an honest attempt at dialogue about how lost I, and probably others, have come to be in this modern society... maybe not the day to day; I still live in a predominantly white mostly non-evangelical Christian city with no gay bars, no obvious trans people, and no ethnic neighbourhoods that openly embrace their culture (like a little Italy thing)... I've always been moderate; against guns, violence, open to new cultures, religions, and gay rights but what largely seemed like BIG CITY and internet debates about all the smaller stuff... like CIS being a word now, or bathroom debates, or being bad for eating meat or being frustrated with agendas being shoved in my face would give me panic attacks, then make me angry at not being able to feel right about what side to pick or choose....

I endeavoured to grow, to learn and just before Christmas I found myself talking to my far younger cousin at a Christmas party and he was not being bigoted but maybe also expressing a lot of the same feelings I had before... that's when I heard myself say that if you do meet that guy wearing a dress and who wants to be called Lulu it is okay to look when confronted with something new... don't worry about the he, she thing but call her Lulu if that is what she wants to be called... at the end of the day they're a person (I've always believed that) and eventually like all new things it will become the new normal... treat people as people, not by their best, worst, oddest, or thing that makes them different thing.... lifting people up makes us all better.

Someone, or rather a lot of people, should have taken the time to listen to August Ames reasons... at the end of the day she may have been right or wrong; but at least they would have heard her out and seen that maybe her reasons weren't meant to alienate, but were instead about safety... you might not agree with her viewpoint, but should at least agree with her right to choose who she shares her body with even professionally... Who knows; maybe if she wasn't mass-condemned, or shamed she might be alive today to learn more about her own decision... to rethink it, to solidify it, or to just add another opinion to these debates that might allow someone else to make a more informed decision down the line.

One thing I do know; twitter is not the place for these kind of discussions... big ideas should not be condensed down to 140 characters.

Flash, I really like this. I've started my day in a shit mood, and reading this - a nice and compact version of the way I feel people need to be to make this world a batter place and at the same time, something I need to remind myself to be mindful of - is just what I needed to shift my mood to something more positive today.

Put this in the "wisdom comes from the strangest fucking places" file, but there's a commercial i've heard lately, and one of the lines of dialogue is effectively "Wouldn't it be nice if 'mankind' was made up of kinder men & women?" And yes, yes it WOULD be. If we, just the OOers, could do our bestest, maybe it's some sort of ripple in a pond that we'd be proud of. I mean, I'm not assuming everybody here is an asshole or anything. I'm just sayin' that we, as a group, might be some of the change we're looking for.

Thanks guys; appreciate the kind sentiments..

It's funny- I sometimes go out of my way to make eye contract and smile at strangers... not in a I'm crazy and want to wear your head like a hat kind of look, but just a friendly smile:

It's amazing; as you kind of see that reserved look come over them for a moment and then a smile just break out across their face back at you... few things make me feel as good as that.

So yeah; small things can lead to big things- smile at a stranger, offer a small helping hand, whatever... Good stuff spreads farther than the bad.
