Don't threads around here crash after 1000 posts. We're going to need more than that.

Pad, the thing with the march today is to send a message. Not so much to Trump who was elected fairly by the rules of the country that lets you have 3 million votes less than your competitor and still win. But for the Democrats. Because Democratic politicians tend to have the backbone of a chocolate eclair. So, they need to grow a backbone to stand up to bad policies and I think a march like that today sends that message.

I don't disagree and it's great to see a crowd of that magnitude. Hopefully that backbone's been grown though by the time of the midterms in 2018 because all these rallies are going to mean SFA if the same people protesting today don't bother to show up to vote in the same way they didn't bother in 2010 and 2014.

One thing I was reading about which would be a good idea, would be for the entire White House Press corps to develop a policy that if Trump won't talk to one of them, then none of them will talk to him. Just to be clear this isn't www.joeblowsnewz.com that gets to be part of the press corps at the White House, these all tend to be vetted credentialed long time reporters for major news outlets.

Regardless of politics making sure that the press has an equal voice and access to the president is good for everyone.

As a Canadian I'll try not to take too much offense to being called a fucktard but your great republic is not always so great for a great many of its citizens. To be fair, America is not alone in that regard, but the U.S. of A has clamoured to be the centrepiece and leader of the world which very much makes American politics a source of interest, and at times concern for other members of the global community, especially it's largest trading partner in Canada who's history and future are directly tied to it's neighbour.

My country isn't perfect, but under Obama we saw the USA return to a respected global position when it started to take better care of some of it's more vulnerable citizens (the ACA wasn't perfect but it was a step in the right direction beyond big medical insurance companies that spend millions a day on lobbyists to make sure they keep making billions), a president that genuinely seemed concerned about why private citizens need assault weapons, the environment, and containing other various superpowers... Obama's legacy will probably be that he ultimately fell prey to the divide that currently plagues U.S. politics and didn't accomplish everything he wanted (although the growth of your GDP would suggest some positive gains) but he was a world leader.

Trump is a circus sideshow with a history of racist comments, hounded by accusations of sexual assault and other impropriety, a noted fear mongerer with a history of documented lying, and who is pursuing a isolationist policy with the world be damned. That's not a world leader... I don't know if a world leader is what America needs right now or not, but again... we are talking about a very big fish in the world pond. The world is global now, America cannot survive on its own (few countries can).

You hear a lot of yelling coming from your neighbours house, it's only natural to take an interest.

The White House press corps has less backbone than Democratic congressmen. They act like high school girls seeking popularity and taking joy in the downfall of their other pressmates.

Flash,
Sometimes it's easier to read headlines and listen to talking heads. That's kinda where I think most of the shit comes from, either side. Not all Canadians are fucktards, just the ones that regurgitate the sound bite..and/or take it to the next level with no factual basis. And doing that from one side is the fodder of assholes and fucktards.

So some things for this great message board to consider and debate:

The great world leader Barack Obama left Israel alone & condemned by the UN Security Council. It is the only time the USA has abandoned its closest middle eastern ally. Prez O had for 7+ years promised to stand with them, but bailed in his final days. I'm still looking for the headline...oh the press was too busy chasing the "what ifs" of frea mongering, after all that sells.

Perhaps we should focus on Russian hacking and the sanctions the USA has levied. Election Fraud and wiki leaks are gonna ruin us. Except of course if you are a military member who stole national secrets and published them. If that's the case, instead of death (treason is the only constitutional crime identified as punishable by death) or the 35 year sentence you are given, our great national leader will commute your sentence. After all what's a few national secrets or military operative deaths amongst friends. Ya'll didn't miss that little tidbit amongst the Trump will set back gays and blacks stuff did I ya?

Instead let's all focus on projecting how a braggadocio statement from a celebrity whore said 10 years ago will affect the country. Blow me. There use that is 20 years when I'm running for king of topless bimbo island.

On the morning of Trump's inauguration I listened to one of the Chicago leaders of America-I-Can speak with hope about what the new President can/might do. Three things struck me:
1. Chicago, a once great city, is a mess (don't need to read it, personal experience) and Fmr. PRez O's hometown.
2. The speaker was both female and African American.
3. America-I-Can lead by Jim Brown has been widely credited with efforts in the inner city.

The depth of the Amer-I-can organization knowledge has with Prez. Trumps plans is far greater than any headline or outsider rant. Apparently Brown & Trump have spent hours together discussing...stuff. So when a leader in that group signs off on future state I'll go along.

Ya'll may recall, I'm not a trump guy, voted against him 2x last year, but he is the leader of the USoA and at some point earned the right to lead.

Two side notes, Dems that bring up electoral college should Just stop. See theirs is the party that created the super delegate, to ensure an upstart like Bernie could never win. So that's either an uneducated Dem or a hypocrite. The EC was brilliant at the time and continues to level the playing field so all facets of the USA's engine are engaged.

Finally, Count Z thanks for your kind words, but I'm serious. Reading headlines it would not be surprising if all of that stuff had happened. You might have missed the Nazi comparisons.

ETA: saw Bo's post. Little in the political arena would make me happier that the WH press Corp going away. No matter which side is in or writing their is always a slant.

Course maybe the sun thing was overstated, after all God is a Patriots fan and we all need to see them win.

merc...

I'm going to disagree with you on two things and agree with you on the other.

1) Israel has done little to help bring about a peaceful Middle East. The original intention back after the 68 war was to make a land for peace deal. They keep putting settlements on occupied land and stirring up crap. Honestly, I guess that's their business except they totally depend on the US to cover their taunting. It's not the US's job and it's not worth the trouble it causes us.

2) Chicago isn't that big of a mess. Yes, there are very bad neighborhoods (true for every large city) and yes, there is more gun violence than there should be, but the overall area and large parts of Chicago are doing fine. Personally, I would be happy to see Rahm Emmanuel go, but it's not the trainwreck that it is portrayed to be to the rest of the world.

3) Yes, the entire White House press corps needs to go. Rotate people in and out. The problem with all the network news and the key correspondents is they become minor celebrities and will do anything to keep that status. Rotate people in and out. Don't confuse opinion with analysis and with reporting. There are roles for all three, but they are too often intertwined. It's pathetic how bad the media has gotten, but the signs were there more than a decade ago (see Jayson Blair).

Bo,
Likely a mistake to post now, as I dropped by for football talk and am well prepared.

I agree with almost all of your point on Israel, though it is irrelevant to mine. You can't proclaim standing shoulder to shoulder then bail. That's my point credibility. To your point, where we may differ, Israel has pulled punches at our request over the years when they were all set to go crazy military on other neighbors. So,I'm not sure the big gun relationship is as clear.

As to Chicago, I first set foot in the city in 1992, have had an office on Ohio and now run part of my world out of the NW suburbs. I've been in every neighborhood in the city tens, if not hundreds of times durning the course of business. We obviously have different experiences.

Sad the Pack isn't making a game of it. GO PATS!

That "shoulder to shoulder" with allies shit will be revealed as the total nonsense it now is when Ukraine, the Baltics, and maybe even Poland are given up to Mr. Putin as the price for the neo-isolationism that Trump wants.

My two cents:

1) Israel - there comes a point in every relationship, no matter how dedicated you are to each other, sometimes you just have to tell your partner that they are wrong and they need to stop being wrong. Supporting Israel in the UN and with money and weapons for decades was the right thing, but there comes a point when you have to tell them that they are hurting their own cause of peace by antagonizing the Palestinians. Obama decided that was the time, personally I think it was overdue, but since it is political suicide to do it, it was the only time he could.

2) Chicago - last I heard Obama was president of the US not mayor of Chicago. Has violent crime dropped in this country from 2008? Spoiler alert, it has. There are issues in large cities that the President cannot influence because he is President of the United States. If in the next four years Chicago turns around and becomes a paradise on earth, that will not have anything to do with Trump, but more with local activists like Jim Brown working in the city with the people.

3) What the DNC does with primary elections has nothing to do with democracy, they are private organizations that have their own rules. Hell until late 20th century they didn't even have primaries. Hillary won a majority of the vote during the primaries, let it go. And I am getting sick and fucking tired of both sides continuing to bring her up, Dems, she lost, move on toward 2018. Repubs she lost, if you are still using her in your excuse, your argument is weak.

4) a Free press is the stone that democracy is based upon, if Trump moves to control the press, we are no longer any form of democracy.

Well HR 586 was introduced on 1/17/17.

If you don't want to bother to google it, it would be a law that states that life (and rights) begin at fertilization. Making abortion murder in the US among other things.

Will it stand up to SCOTUS review? Under the current court, no, but Trump get one more opening, then maybe.

OOMike, I'm sorry I didn't realize you were so upset over the Trump win (no sarcasm).

Normally I find I learn things from you, but your last few posts have been off. Maybe someone hacked your account?

Quick check on why I am so concerned:

This post was irrelevant to the OP; who happened to be me. I had several specifics, but none involved abortion. And I googled who introduced HR bills and found out it IS NOT the president elect. Stunner!!

Now the rest involved the post right above, I'll use your numbers:
:
Your #1 makes my point thank you. BO turned his back on Israel with no public foreshadowing. Not good for our rep in the world of allies. Credibility is the word that comes to mind; I'm sure others exist.

#2 also reaffirms my original post, much gratitude. MY initial point was to trust Jim Brown's Amer-I-Can reps who see excitement and opportunity in Trump leadership.

#3 is kinda funny. You actually typed:

"What the DNC does with primary elections has nothing to do with democracy"

I'll let those words stand unedited. but will be nominating it for "Post of the Year"!

#4 missed the point; maybe I was unclear. I think Trump bypassing the existing press structure is evolution. I'll add to the thought, just as FDR did with fireside chats or JFK did with TV. I'm intrigued.

YOur post in it's entirety was:

First off, we are a Republic as I'm sure you know but your #alternativefact is common.

Secondarily, Neither Bo or I suggested Trump should "control the press".

I assume you're despondent over the crushing victory by the New England Patriots. Think in two short weeks it might be YOUR President Donald Trump and YOUR NFL World Champions THE New England Patriots ( I even capitalized the "THE" for your Ohio State fandom side.)

Have a better day!

Obviously you missed my point,

First and I will type slower this time cause you seemed to have missed it in a previous post, I live in Columbus but I am not a OSU fan. Born in NY so the college team I chose when growing up was Michigan. Plus if you read my posts in the NFL thread, I am rooting for the Pats. Better luck next trigger.

Second, my post about HR 586 was expanding on your BS nothing happened in 24 hours we are all good post, in that no we are not all good because this is already happening. If you think any bill of such a political issue introduced in congress by a member of the President's (or President-elect) party does not have his blessing, then I thank you for your time reading this far, but I am done having a conversation with you.

Third, if you want peace in the Middle East you either will need to wipe one side completely out (which will never happen) or work with both sides. This was Obama telling Israel to stop being an ass and work together for peace. Something that should have been done a long time ago, but their political system is more fucked up than ours. And turning our back is a lot harsh considering we are still giving them money and arms and we refused to block a resolution from the UN that basically tells Israel that the settlements are wrong and you need to stop. Not exactly turning our back on them.

Fourth, please include the whole quote "What the DNC does with primary elections has nothing to do with democracy, they are private organizations that have their own rules."

Fifth If is a two letter word, but it is a big one.

Less than a week in and the Trump administration in the midst of an all-out assault on science, medicine, research, transparency, and facts.

But yeah...everything is fine.

And sadly Canadian politicians are all ready being giddy over the pipeline announcement.

First you don't get to troll me by stealing my "type slow" line on me without asking me if you can use my line on me. I'm protecting my copyright.

Second, I absolutely think bills are introduced without Trumps knowledge. Hell he doesn't have time to prep his cabinet nominees, you think he's got...focus...on anything? He's clueless in the ways of politics.

Third...actually 2A thank you for numbering.

2B I am on my Ipad2, so I apologize for not breaking things out, it's past its prime...

Ok, now third, you have assumed I want peace in the Middle East. Assuming what someone wants and then drawing conclusions is fraught with error. It's another classic, you didn't invent it.

Fourth, not a chance I'm including the whole post. I broke out laughing hard, so it was a natural edit. Friggin funny stuff. I sincerely thank you for it.

Fifth, I reread my post (very slowly cuz I typed it fast) and I could not find the word IF in anything I posted. It was in your posts... So I am at a loss for why IF is a drop the mic line.

Sixth (I'm adding one to your five) GO PATS

SEVENTH, just cuz seven is cooler than six, why do you have a signature line. Mine is for people to read and ponder when it applies.

The hiring freeze is interesting. A major reason why the Obama recovery didn't seem all that robust compared to other recoveries is, by the time the private sector hiring picked up, governments (mostly state and local) were cutting workers because their tax base was ravaged.

Now, I think you can make an argument that it is needed to cut the deficit, but if it just goes to tax cuts, it will hurt the economy without any benefit.

Less people working - they cut their spending and the economy doesn't grow as fast. That is basically what happened in 2010-12 when the private sector job cutting ended, but the public sector job losses slowed down the growth.

Thanks. If it's a freeze it shouldn't be dramatic enough to affect things. Cuts, layoffs, downsizing, maybe...

Although my gut says excluding military, the savings on any cuts is a pimple on the deficit and/or debt.

Just window dressing; similar to this nugget.
