OOfficial Discussion Thread: WrestleMania 31 Weekend

We've got a thread going for WM preview/predictions, and keep all your thoughts along those lines over there... I was totally ignoring my duties, so Gobshite started it a day or two ago, and it's going gangbusters. GANGBUSTERS, I tells ya!

I finally got around to collecting my thoughts, and I'm about 30th in line, just part of the crowd, instead of my usual trendsetting thread-starter spot. But since it's a very insightful and discriminating crowd, I don't mind.

But here? This thread is for STUFF THAT HAPPENS all this weekend, not what you wish might happen.

Obviously, our main content will be generated starting on Sunday, for the 6-hour WrestleMania 31 extravaganza (2-hour preshow starting at 5pm eastern, 4-hour PPV starting at 7pm), and I'm sure y'all will keep things up to date with real-time results and punditry.

But also, the Hall of Fame is 3 hours of cool stuff on Saturday night.

And the WM Axxxcess (how many X's?) Fan Fest has already been going on for 36 hours, and if anyone has live reports/personal experiences, that'd be cool to hear. Plus, any newsworthy appearances/events certainly belong here, too (they have a ring set up with matches/promos happening every now and again).

Already, I can kick things off by reporting that Hideo Itami won a 4-man NXT mini-tournament at Fan Fest, and as a result, he has earned a spot in the Andre Battle Royale.

With that, I hand this thread off to you, OO Nation... I'll have my hands full during the PPV, so that's entirely on you! But I should, hopefully, have the time and the snark to contribute a few thoughts about the Hall of Fame broadcast tomorrow night. See you then...

Just so this doesn't get lost in the rumour crap thread:

Jim Ross is enjoying his WM weekend, and appears to have tweeted something instead of sending a DM.

@JRsBBQ: Damn straight Bro. You're my black son. Proud to say that. Hope we can stay in touch. Big show for me today. Game Time!!

This seems like the thread for this. After months of teasing, Hideo Itami FINALLY connected with the GTS last night.

Things got off to a bit of a slow start, with the Usos trying-too-hard and Rikishi and Larry's rambling stream of consciousness... but I was pleasantly surprised by Madusa's effort (prop comedy, even!), and if you weren't fighting back tears for all of Daniel Bryan and Connor's Dad & Brother, you can't be my friend.

Out of respect, I will withhold comment on Dana Warrior's well-intentioned whatever-that-was.

But more than anything, I'm popping in here to note that WWE slotted the HoF broadcast for 3 hours, and we're already 2 hours and 15 minutes in, with only half the inductees done... apparently, I made a giant mistake by starting my leisurely cocktailing when the show began. If we finish in under 5 hours, it'll be a miracle.

Wait, strike that. Johnny Ace just started talking. It's a good thing I'm already lightly toasted... maybe he'll be slightly less terrible this way.

Somebody isn't thrilled about Rikishi's HOF speech

[TheGuest] That's great, they kick Khali all over his torso and head and what does he sell? His knee.
[Dougie 2.0] Khalis kneebone is connected to his headbone
[Tommy D] Same way Welker hurt his knee.
[Sportsguy] Welker was jumped by the Nexus?
[Tommy D] yes they were so quick you couldn't even see them
[BC] you can't see me?

They should have acknowledged Scotty but Brian Christopher is such a mess, or was the last time we saw him, that he's probably fatter and more out of breath by now than a dozen Rikishi's could ever be. It'd be like having a male Chyna at the ceremony waiting for him to have a Tourettes-grade meltdown if he got near the podium.

Well you know, just because these young men have little education and live in squalor, it doesn't entitle them to commit antisocial behaviour and get away with it.

it's a child molesting robot

Nobody made mention of it beforehand, but I predicted Poffo was going to give a great, Genius-like speech. But holy shit, he kept it short, sweet, and full of passion. I always thought Lanny Poffo, as the Genius, was a top 5 mic worker from that time period. Unfortunately, he was mostly a jobber to the Hogans, but lord, he always cut interesting, smart promos.

His acceptance of the award for Savage was incredibly nice. That voice. Those Poffo's have genes that have a golden touch on vocal cords.

I really, really liked the HOF this year.

Lost in the hullabalooza of Wrestlemania Weekend, I forgot Rock was hosting SNL this weekend too. The, not Chris.

I enjoyed the HOF for the most part as well. It's always a fun time. I thought Lawler had the best line of the night when he was talking about the $9.99 thing and said "There are 9 inductees and you'll feel 99 when it's over," because that was the damn truth.

I thought the Bushwackers, Madusa, Daniel Bryan, and Lanny Poffo were all great.

I wish if Dana Warrior wanted to take a shot at Hulk Hogan, she'd just do it.

Looks like we're really warming up to a DDP-started class next year. I think his profile has built up enough in recent years that he's a good #2, and he got plenty of shout outs tonight to get it started. We'll just have to see if they go Sting or Undertaker as the main act next year.

Wasn't working on my Xbox one until I did a full reboot. Seems like it freezes from time to time with the quick boot option turned on.

Didn't watch the HoF, but from what I keep reading sounds like the fans were being dicks as usual.

Three-quarters of the way through the Free Hour of the preshow and there has been exactly ONE (1) first-run/value-add segment. But it was pretty neat: the New Stooges met the Original Stooges backstage in catering. Hopefully the first of many mini-easter-eggs.

Everything else has been purest background noise that hasn't caused me to perk up from my preparatory kitchen duties. Just talking heads and video packages that WWE has already played into the ground before tonight....

Things should pick up at 6pm, when the preshow goes Network Exclusive and is only available to paying customers....

If you're looking for something of substance from today, I suggest you guys go to the 5 minute look-in exclusive they had around 2 on the network. Cesaro/Kidd were excellent in it.
