Godzilla (May 2014)

Anyone else a fan of the Godzilla films?

Can't wait for this. I am hoping this will make it possible for future movies to be made. Pacific Rim was big overseas but not here which I hate. Hope having Big G's name put on it will make a splash!

I'm interested. I see movies so rarely in the theater anymore though, I'm not sure I'll make the effort before it comes out on Netflix. This does seem like a movie you need the theater experience for though.

Agreed. I know the movie gets a lot of crap, but I enjoyed the hell out of Cloverfield and that was definitely a "gotta see it in the theater" movie. I guess I'm lucky I didn't get the motion sickness that so many others did. This seems like it'll be a lot of fun on the big screen.

Also; Holy crap I didn't think I'd like this trailer as much as I did. I think It's safe to say we're in for a proper Godzookie movie now. Needs more Hank Azaria though.

That trailer is fucking stellar. Count me in as being excited for this movie and it looks like it's going to just completely blow the 1999 version out of the water.

It looks great, though I am worried it's going to be so bleak and dire that it won't be really "fun".

Maybe it was the camera angles, but the rumors of this Godzilla being 350 feet doesn't seem to hold up. Still, it definently looks like this might be the biggest one yet.

That seems to be their intention. They say there basing on it on the original Godzilla film which is definently dark and not your usual monster fight popcorn flick.

Hopefully it works out. Cranston can't do it by himself though. He was in the Total Recall remake and even he couldn't make that fucking atrocity not suck dog cack. Remakes are always a crap shoot, with a record of bombs and suck-outs being far more likely than a winner. The Big G might make it good, but the odds are that it won't.

Well you know, just because these young men have little education and live in squalor, it doesn't entitle them to commit antisocial behaviour and get away with it.

Cranston will act his balls off, I just mean that I don't want to see a movie that's largely 2 hours of people crying in the middle of a disaster zone, in an analogy for natural disasters/terrorist attacks. I don't want to be bummed out by this movie featuring a giant lizard and other monsters. I want some spectacle and entertainment in there too.

Well if the "supposed" leaked script is any indication, it's sounding like it's gonna be one of the best godzilla movies ever.

That means it will blow

I was really psyched for Pacific Rim last year from the trailers and was super let-down by the actual film. Quite frankly with films like this, the more Kaiju the better.

I also liked Cloverfield, although I thought it ran out of steam at the very end. The scene where they came out of the subway and the artillery was firing right over their heads was very memorable to me for some reason. I also kept thinking that Hud reminded me of Seth Rogan.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Gareth Evans said the other monsters would be all original ones.

Here is a toy of the other monster if that helps.

Kind of reminds me of Cloverfield.

That WonderCon footage didn't last long but here is a new one that shows the new monsters!

I'm so hyped for this!

As I watch more trailers I get the feeling tha they're desperate to make us believe that Cranston's character will be the most prominent character after Godzilla and not the dull looking and sounding son.

I watched Gareth Edward's Monsters, the flick that singlehandely won him the right to direct the new Godzilla apparently, and it didn't really elevate or bring down my expectations. The guy is awesome at crafting a setting, he knows how to build a world but the problem is the characters in his world. Despite the talent in this film, I'm not sure any character but Godzilla will be worth remembering but I definently think he'll do an awesome job with the big guy.

The movie poster lists Cranston last with a "with Brian Cranston". So, I'm guessing his role is limited.

It sounds like Aaron-Taylor Johnson (kickass) and Elizabeth Olsen (Oldboy, Avengers II next year) are likely to be the "main" stars... although I'm guessing that like Cranston they are probably all just going to be there to move the plot along a bit, and to give the audience a break from shit blowin' up. David Straithairn and Ken Watanabe (as seen in the trailer) are both in the movie, so they definitely seem to want to flesh the human part out with genuine actors, and not just flavour of the month pretty boys like a lot of Hollywood movies generally do.

FYI I'd skip the Wiki page... I know it's generally too early for a full plot breakdown to be up yet, but even in just looking up the Kickass actor's name in the cast section you already get a feeling for some of the plot points just from the names of some of the characters and brief write ups.... who knows what else is in there in the other sections.

I notice you put Avengers II next to Elizabeth Olsen but not Aaron-Taylor Johnson. They're both in the next Avengers movie playing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

I knew he was going to be Quicksilver, I just wasn't sure if it was in Avengers, or in the Days of Future past one... My bad for being lazy.

So now I know why I wasn't sure which Quicksilver he was going to portray; turns out one of his buddies from Kickass is going to be playing Quicksliver in the X-Men movie (Evan Peters).

This was the Godzilla film we have been waiting for!

It did everything right with regards to a Godzilla film. The buildup to the reveal of Big G. The other monsters were great. The final battle was epic.

Only complaint would be certain characters came off dull but that is how most Godzilla films were so it's just a nitpick.

If you want to see a good Godzilla film I suggest going to watch this. I liked it so much i'm driving 200 miles to the closest city that has an IMAX just so I can watch it on that.

Hope their is a sequel!
