Halfway to WrestleMania XXX...what would you book?

So WrestleMania XXX is exactly six months from today and I thought it'd be fun to do a little fantasy booking and see what everyone comes up with. I'm going to cheat and do two cards, one based on if Sting were to come to the WWE for a short-term deal and one if he doesn't.

My first card, with no Sting:

Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk, WWE title match: I kind of feel like this match needs to happen and if you do it with both guys as faces, you could have this generation's version of Hogan/Warrior, Bret/Shawn, Austin/Rock, etc. The setup wouldn't have to be anything too crazy either...I'd just have Bryan be the current WWE champion and have Punk win the Rumble and challenge him at Mania. No other storyline shenanigans needed.

The Undertaker vs. John Cena: The one dream match the WWE has never done (their PPV match from ten years ago doesn't really count) and like Bryan/Punk, wouldn't require too much of a setup. Cena can cut a promo saying how he's never challenged the Undertaker and the streak, and he wants to do it at the WWE's biggest PPV ever, WrestleMania XXX. And let's face it, if ever there was anyone who could give us at least a tiny bit of believability that he may end the streak, it would be Cena wrestling Taker at what could quite possibly be Taker's last WrestleMania.

The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar: Word on the gossip sites last year was that Lesnar was supposed to attack Rock the night after WrestleMania, but the Rock's injuries prevented him from appearing and the angle taking place. They could easily still do this though, by having the Rock make a "special appearance" on RAW the night after the Royal Rumble and have Lesnar attack him then.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow, world heavyweight title match: I'm getting a little wacky with this one, but I was having a really hard time thinking who could even be involved in the world title picture in six months. The setup would be Ziggler capturing the world title between now and April and Damien Sandow actually choosing to cash in his MITB shot in a pre-announced match and not in traditional "sneak attack" fashion. Sandow could cut a promo saying that him winning the world title is an event of such huge magnitude, that it can only happen on the grandest stage of them all, so he announces that he will be cashing in his MITB shot at WrestleMania XXX against Dolph Ziggler.

Triple H vs. Vince McMahon, No Holds Barred match for control of the WWE featuring Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee: I know some of you may groan at the thought of a Triple H/Vince match, but Vince showed he can still put on a pretty entertaining affair when he got in the ring with CM Punk last year. I'd have Vince as the face here, with Triple H and Stephanie trying to usurp his power, and keep the match reliant on brawling and hardcore stuff. And the inclusion of Shawn would help to ensure the match is at least halfway entertaining, plus you can play up the "will he call the match down the middle or help Triple H?" aspect.

The return of Money In The Bank featuring Randy Orton, Kane, Rob Van Dam, Miz, Alberto Del Rio, and Jack Swagger: I know it's an actual PPV now, but what better way to bring the match back to it's roots for one night only than at WrestleMania XXX? And the hook here is that all contestants are former MITB winners, with the guarantee that somebody is going to become only the second two-time MITB winner in WWE history.

Sheamus vs. Ryback: This would serve as the PPV's "monster vs. monster" match and wouldn't require too much setup...have Ryback attack Sheamus upon his return to TV and go from there.

The Shield vs. Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston, and Evan Bourne, all titles on the line: Yep, I'd have the Shield go all the way to WrestleMania with their belts, because why not? I'd also have Evan Bourne come back and reform Air Boom with Kofi and they could feud with Rollins/Reigns, while Cody feuds with Ambrose in the months leading up to WrestleMania, with this match being the blowoff for both feuds.

Okay, and card number two, featuring Sting:

Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk, WWE title match: Same as above.

The Undertaker vs. Sting: Let's face it, as underwhelming as the match quality may possibly be, the WWE has to pull the trigger on it if Sting is game. Not only would having Sting make his WWE debut be a huge deal for the WWE from a hype standpoint, the timing wouldn't be more perfect than to have it happen at the 30th WrestleMania. Plus it could forever serve as a historical trivia fact for the WWE, being able to say that the one and only time Sting ever competed in a WWE ring was at WrestleMania XXX.

John Cena vs. The Rock: This would follow the same blueprint as Austin/Rock's WrestleMania matches: the first two would be the mega-hyped main events of their respective Manias, while the third one would be a little lower on the card. Not to mention you could hype this as the first match up to ever be done at three consecutive WrestleManias.

Brock Lesnar vs. Ryback: With Rock tied up against Cena, my thought would be to put Lesnar in a match against Ryback, with Lesnar as a face. You could have Heyman turn on Lesnar and align himself fully with Ryback, billing him as the future and Lesnar as the past. And considering Lesnar usually pops the hell out of the crowd whenever his music hits, it wouldn't be too hard to turn him face.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow, world heavyweight title match: Same as above.

Triple H vs. Vince McMahon, No Holds Barred match for control of the WWE featuring Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee: Same as above.

The return of Money In The Bank featuring Randy Orton, Kane, Rob Van Dam, Miz, Alberto Del Rio, and Jack Swagger: Same as above.

Sheamus vs. Antonio Cesaro, IC title match: I'm pulling this completely out of my ass for no other reason than the match would probably kick ass.

The Shield vs. Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston, and Evan Bourne, all titles on the line: Same as above.

So there you go, two cards with four altered matches based solely on whether Sting were to come in or not. Personally, I think I like the non-Sting one better, but would also admit that Sting coming in would make for a more historical WrestleMania.

I'll play

WWE Title Match
Daniel Bryan (C) vs John Cena

Cena returns just as Bryan finally captures the WWE title at HitC. Cena is occupied with Del Rio until the Rumble while Bryan fights off HHH and his minions. Desperate to get rid of Bryan as the face of the company, HHH pushes Cena as the only man who can defeat Bryan and is "best for business" (possibly even getting him some backup in the Rumble itself). Cena, while not joining a heel faction or overtly turning heel at all, does not turn down the chance to face Bryan, with the "incidental" backing of the McMahons.

The Undertaker vs Brock Lesnar
An old feud (that Brock came out on top of) reignited. This time with the streak on the line. This match really builds itself. Throw in the "top Heyman guy" dig for extra effect to build from last year.

HHH vs C.M. Punk
Paul Heyman and HHH join forces to rid the unmarketable C.M. Punk from WWE. Punk responds in brilliant pipe-bomb mode for a great build to a matchup that never reached its potential in 2011.

The Rock vs Sting
A face vs face matchup of mutual respect but with each man needing the win in order to bolster their past achievements. What did Sting's WCW/TNA success really mean since he never faced the real big guns of the industry... until now.

World Heavyweight Title Match
Damien Sandow (C) vs Cody Rhodes

Multiple twists and turns since July take us to these former friends finally meeting with the (almost) big belt on the line. See below for more details.

Alberto Del Rio vs Dolph Ziggler
Linked very closely to the above match. In my world, Del Rio loses the title to Rhodes in a hard-fought match when Del Rio threatens to "concuss" Cody and Ziggler intervenes, giving an exhausted Cody the window for the win (which then opens the door for a Sandow cash-in). Del Rio, infuriated, threatens to concuss Ziggler again to end his career. These two have had some great chemistry in the past when booking didn't get in the way and this will be their chance to revive and resolve their currently-dormant feud.

Title vs Title Match
Antonio Cesaro (US) vs RVD (IC)

A good use of both guys here, the winner will come off as having achieved something truly special - unifying two titles at WrestleMania, establishing both the winner and the titles as important players. Also continues to tease the possibility of the two bigger belts someday being merged as well.

Triple Triple Threat Match
The Wyatt Family vs The Shield vs Big Show/Sheamus/Goldust

Admittedly an odd match here, but this is designed to punish the uprisers by having them face both The Shield and The Wyatts. Incedentially, The Wyatts may be subtly nudging past The Shield as HHH's favored hired hands. They are much more unconventional but they will have been more effective in causing destruction and less dissenting as WM nears.

Missing in action;
Orton (out with a kayfabe injury; on standby duty in case Sting falls through)
Christian, Ryback, Axel, et al (Maybe a match or in a battle royal on the pre-show)

My card is a bit more re-hashy, with many dormant feuds from months or years ago being rekindled with extra intensity. This is something recent WMs have largely lacked but I feel would greatly develop interest in what should be the biggest event of the year.

Nice card, Jazzman! I do think the hard part is finding spots for all of the main event/upper card guys, which was tougher than I thought it would be and why I threw in the MITB match idea. And even with that match, I still left off guys like Big Show, Christian, Mark Henry, Miz, and Fandango.

Thank you. I like your cards as well. I did want to take a different path with the WWE Title than Bryan-Punk (though it would undoubtedly be an outstanding match on the big stage) and I'm probably the only person not clamoring for a Taker-Sting match. Most people would seem to love it. Well done.

Orton is the big omission to my card, but he just didn't fit in anywhere and I could easily see HHH setting him up for injury after he proved to be unable to keep Bryan out of the top spot.

Iíll take a crack at crafting the WM30 card. Iím planning on going (already have plane tix and hotel booked), so hopefully Iím not far off with these predictions, as I would love to see this card.

With the match between Bryan and Orton at HIAC being reffed by HBK, I think weíve got a few paths opening up on the Road to WM. The more obvious path leads to Bryan versus HHH at WM. But as others have pointed out, I donít see WWE being able to hold off on this matchup for another six months. Maybe the blowoff for HHH and Bryan comes at Decemberís TLC. Further, they seem to be laying the groundwork for some HHH-HBK hostilities. Shortly after that, things can really begin to heat up for a program between Hunter and Shawn Michaels. With all the history between the two, this feud practically writes itself. Throw in Steph and Vince, and this should be a nice Mania-quality match.

Meanwhile, I can see Orton becoming champ at HIAC (or shortly thereafter) and feuding with Show for the next few months, culminating in a successful defense at TLC. His next challenger would be Punk, with Punk defeating Orton at the Rumble. Also at the Rumble, Bryan, who was told by HHH heíd never receive another shot at the title after failing to win it, is entered in the Rumble match at #1 and forced to ďprove himselfĒ once again if he ever wants another shot at the title. Of course, he wins, setting up our WWE title match at Mania.

I see no reason to take the strap off ADR until Mania, at the earliest. Heís a very good heel champ and, by the time Mania comes around, heíll have held the title for 10 months. Itís never a bad thing to have a strong champion coming into the yearís biggest shows, so the title reign would serve him and the match well. Sandow announces his intention to cash in the Money in the Bank contract at Mania, on the grandest stage, sometime after the Rumble. I feel WWE may have been testing out Sandow in this role a few weeks back when he faced ADR on Smackdown. With the proper build, this could be a fun WHT match.

The rest of the card kinds writes itself. Much of this is dependent on Sting finally coming to WWE, and as we all know, thatís always far from a sure thing. But assuming he does, the Undertaker (in what I believe will be his retirement match) seems the most logical opponent. Cena and Lesnar will have not faced each other for nearly two years, making their matchup special again. And what better way to celebrate the anniversary of WM than with the one-time revival of the Money in the Bank match.

No Rock or Austin, but Iím getting the feeling (based on both of their upcoming schedules around Mania time) that they wonít be involved.

WWE Championship: CM Punk (C) vs. Daniel Bryan

World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (C) vs. Damien Sandow

HHH vs. HBK

The Streak: Undertaker vs. Sting

John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar (maybe make it a Hell in a Cell match for extra effect)

Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust

Ryback vs. Goldberg

Big Show vs. Randy Orton

Money in the Bank: The Shield vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. RVD vs. Chris Jericho vs. Big E Langston vs. Antonio Cesaro

Pre-Show: Kane, Rey Mysterio, & The Miz vs. The Wyatt Family

I decided not to repeat any match already posted, which made things a bit difficult since some of those matches are absolutely the way they should go.

World Heavyweight Title
John Cena vs The Undertaker
Cena's sticks around in the WHT picture, elevating back to it's status as an equal to the WWE Ttitle. The Title here serves to add some suspense to the Taker Streak match. Will Taker get a win over the top guy and a Title reign or will Cena do the unthinkable?

WWE Title
Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus
After Orton and others fail to defeat Bryan, HHH busts out the guy who took him out regular competition and decimated Bryan in their first WM match. The history between all three should make for a fun built up, and the match should be one of the best underdog vs monster heel matches ever.

CM Punk vs Brock Lesnar 2-Last Man Standing
The story here would be Punk putting Heyman in a wheelchair for real sometime in October/November and Punk going for the Title while Heyman tries to get Brock to come back. Seeing that Lesnar doesn't want to waste his time with Punk, Heyman baits Punk into calling out Lesnar himself. A couple of weeks of Pipe Bombs and the match is set.

Diva's Title
AJ Lee vs Kharma
Since I'm not including Rock or Sting, I'll throw Kharma in. The story of this match writes itself.

The Wyatt Family and Kane vs The Rhodes Brothers&Scholars and RVD
The intellectual savior of the masses and the hillbilly cult leader make for natural enemines, and The Rhodes and RVD could be drawn into this by being attack by The Wyatts at some point. Sandow tries to play nice with them, but this being a stoner, a perverted Hollywood star, and the guy he screwed out of the mitb briefcase it isn't easy. The story is Wyatt leading his brainwashed followers against Sandow ''leading'' a team of guys he dislikes for a variety of reasons.

Alberto Del Rio vs Dolph Ziggler-No Holds Barred
Ziggler loses the Chamber match after Del Rio gives him another concussion. Their history is brought up and here we go.

IC Title
Ryback vs Sami Zayn
What they tried to do with Bo earlier this year, is redone better with Sami Zayn who faces the most obvious oppnent for him in his WM debut

Tag Team Titles-Ladder Match
The Usos vs The Matadores vs The Real Americans vs Barret and McIntyre
The Real Americans are the ones who connect everybody here. After failing to take out Los Matadores, they take out their frustartions by taking out 3MB. Drew brings out Barrett as Team Euro to face them while Los Matadores want to avenge El Torrito who was taken out at some point. After an overtly controversial promo, Vince not being able to Zeb's right to express his mind, punishes them by adding Team Euro and Los Matadores to the Title match the RAs had earned which HHH agress too since it also means screwing over The Usos as well.

Randy Orton vs Rey Mysterio
Couldn't figure out any compelling ways to use this guys, but realistically they are not being left out the card, so might aswell pair them up.They have some history that could be played up, such as Rey beating Orton(and Angle) to win the World Title at WM22 and just like Rey used his victory over Orton to catapault himself to the top, Orton is going to destroy Rey to regain his spot on top.

The Shield vs Team Hoss(Big Show, Mark Henry, and Big E)-Elimination style

Pre-Show Match-US Title Match
Miz vs Christian
Miz finally gets turned back heel and wins the US Title of whoever took it off Ambrose and gets paired against a returning Christian.

I think that gets everybody of importance on the card. With Jericho distancing himself more and more from WWE, I don't see him making it this year. I'm sure somebody else from NXT will be called up besides Zayn, but I don't think any of them would be WM ready a few months intr their main roster debut. HHH will probably sit this one out, id they doesn't get to face Bryan. Axel, Kofi, and Fandango are only making it to WM if they do a huge multiman amtch.

I only have one, but it seems appropriate on the 30th Wrestlemania:

Antonio Cesaro vs Big Show in a $50,000 Big Swing challenge. We know Show has a heel turn coming (maybe two or three between now and WM), and the swing, if they stick with it, will turn Cesaro face eventually. So have Cesaro swing a few bigger guys between the Rumble and WM, then Big Show, inexplicably with money, starts getting on Cesaro, saying he can't swing him. WM happens, Cesaro swings Show, and we have an impressive Wrestlemania moment.

While Taker/Cena certainly wouldn't need the world title, I do agree that having it on the line would add some extra intrigue to the match (and you could even switch things up a bit with Taker wanting the world title, rather than Cena wanting to end Taker's streak). It kind of reminds me of Taker/Shawn II at WrestleMania XXVI, where we were guaranteed to either see the streak get broken or see Shawn's career come to an end.

That's a really great idea. I think the only thing I'd change is have it be an actual match, with Cesaro getting the swing spot in at the end for the victory. Though I am slightly skeptical as to whether Cesaro could actually swing the Big Show or not (I know he did it to Khali, but Show just seems like he'd be harder to pull that off with for some reason).

AJ Lee vs Stephanie

The way I would do it is I would have AJ Lee enter the Royal Rumble, nobody touches her, the last two men somehow eliminates themselves and she wins it.

After this, Triple H would say that women in main event is bad for business, offending Stephanie. Eventually, AJ bargains the title shot for a match with Stephanie.

Golddust vs. Cody

CMPunk vs. HHH

The Rumble winner gets to face Undertaket in his final match

If they can get Sting, he is the surprise #30 who wins.
Otherwise, Daniel Bryan wins. And breaks the Streak.

Big E. Vs. Mark Henry in some kind of strong man contest

Cena vs. Orton Round 250 for the title

Reigns vs. Rollins vs. Anbrose for US Title

Ziggler / Misterio / Sheamus / Del Rio / et al in MitB. Sheamus wins.

AJ Lee in some title match

1. Unified title vs. Streak: Cena(c) vs. Undertaker

2. Brock vs. Batista or RVD (Whichever guy they get, Batista vs. Brock would be the 'power man' match, RVD vs. Brock would be the 'Heyman guy' vs. the current 'Heyman guy' )

3. DX(HBK/HHH) vs. Bryan/Punk (Leaving Bryan vs. HBK or Punk vs. HBK as a possible match for WM31)

4. For Control of WWE: Orton (representing Stephanie/HHH/Kane) vs. Big E Langston (representing Vince/Hulk Hogan)

5. The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family (US title vs. Tag titles: Ambrose is US champ, Rowan/Harper are tag champs, if Shield wins Rollins/Reigns get tag titles, if Wyatts win, Bray gets US title. Wyatts win due to some dissension in the Shield with Reigns splitting from them.)

6. Cody vs. Goldust

7. Divas match: Brie(c) vs. Nikki

8. Tag Team Turmoil Tables match for #1 contendership: (Tag Team Turmoil match, but eliminations are by being put through a table instead of by pinfall/submission/DQ/CO. Would make 'quick' matches more reasonable and this could be a replacement match on the WM card for MITB: get a bunch of guys on the card that would otherwise be left out, and provide a bit of a spotfest.) Teams would include: Mysterio/Big Show, The Real Americans, Usos, Matadores, (New) Demolition, Ryback/Axel, 3MB, Truth/Woods

Pre-show: Miz vs. Ziggler

Notables left out:
Alberto, Christian, Sheamus -- questionable when they'll return from injury

Mark Henry -- perhaps get him a tag partner to join the turmoil match, or squeeze in a short 9th main card match with him against someone like Ryback or Barrett, or with 3MB in the Turmoil Tables match have them have all 3 guys in the match, they eliminate whoever and the next team is just Mark Henry by himself, he eliminates them but then gets eliminated by the next non-jobber tag team of 2.

Kane -- not wrestling currently so Stephanie and him would be in Orton's corner while Vince & Hogan are in Big E's corner. HHH can't be there since he's got his tag match. Kane can be there to do a spot with Hogan who likely can't do a match, but should have some role.

Kofi, Fandango, Barrett -- sucks to be them

IC title -- Big E still holds it, but is in a match with something else on the line

Now that we're on the road to WM, let' see which matches of ours might happen.

Besides the brother vs brother match with the Rhodes that everybody saw coming, is Sheamus vs Ryback the most likely of the proposed matches here that will actually happen?

Of mine, Taker-Brock seems the most likely.

Del Rio-Ziggler could happen too, but right now that seems like a match destined for the pre-show at best.

It's kind of funny when you think about all the completely unforeseen things that have happened since October: Punk is gone, Batista is back, the titles have been unified, the Rock isn't going to be a part of Mania, and guys like Ziggler and Sandow are barely above jobber status.

And out of the two cards I made up, the only matches that could still theoretically happen are Taker/Cena or Taker/Sting (and I highly doubt we're going to get either one of those). Otherwise, 99.9% of my cards ain't happening.
