Walking Dead Season 4

Trailer got launched at Comic-Con today. wOOt! Only three months to go!

Well you know, just because these young men have little education and live in squalor, it doesn't entitle them to commit antisocial behaviour and get away with it.

Yeah, it looks like they've been turning into a well-honed and efficient group of killers since the Gov's failed attack. Hopefully Carl's descent into total savagery has some major payoff at the end. An appearance by a mega-sized herd of zombies numbering in the thousands or even tens of thousands, which we really haven't seen yet and that they can do with some non-closeup CGI, would be pretty damn cool too.

That does look awesome... and I noticed there was nothing with the former Governor, I wonder if that is to get us to forget about him, or if he is not in the next season.

I think you'll see him in the next season. After all, someone is sabotaging the jail defenses and pulling the zombies in. Not having him in the trailer keeps his reintroduction fresher. I saw in an interview that the guy that plays him was at the Comic Con workshop/interview/etc thing for the show, so that tells me it's likely he'll be back in the next season.

Still, I suppose they could pull a MErle with him and have him fade for a few years too. I don't think it's gonna happen with his character though.

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!

Watched seasons 1-3 on DVD over the past few months and am now caught up for watching in real time.

I read that there are going to be 27 deaths over the first 1-3 episodes.

Saw an ad for it last night where it looks like Carol is in some sort of danger. She'd probably be toward the top of my "probable deaths" list for this season.

We'll know for sure if she suddenly has a lot of lines in an episode, i.e. T-Dog.
A sure sign she's going to die.

And it would have the added bonus of giving Daryl another reason to fly off the handle.

All I can say is this....the scene with Tyreese, the hammer, and the swarm of zombies is going to be the greatest scene of that episode, possibly the season.

I have a feeling i know how that will play out.

And yes, the Governor is going to be in this season, and i'm predicting it will be by the 2nd or 3rd episode.

io9 reporting that they've cast Michael Cudlitz (Bull Randleman from Band Of Brothers, Sgt. John Cooper from the awesome and horribly underappreciated Southland) as Abraham. Looking forward to this one 'cause the dude can do cold-eyed intensity almost to a Mel Gibson level of crazy.

SPOILER ALERT if you have not seen the season premere

Overall the episode left me kind of meh...

Some takeaways...
They have enough electricity to charge iPods now?
Just now the ceiling gives way?
Why were we supposed to care about the young kid?
Did Carol call Daryl Pooky?

End Spolier Alert.

I had the exact same thoughts...
Those zombies were walking around that roof for how long? Maybe if they'd have all fallen in the same spot, otherwise no.
And yes, she did say Pooky

I don't know if the show is losing steam or not, but I'm finding myself close to just tuning in to see the creative Zombie kills. It might be that the pacing is just so slow. What really bothered me about the premeire episode was that they threw all these new characters at us. Why should I give a fuck about the guy they lost at the fake Big Lots store? We knew him for about what.......10 minutes?

Also, have to call bullshit on the roof giving way as it did. Me being a famous 146 year old architect, the chances of that built up roof not having a 1 1/2" metal deck minimum supporting it, is next to zero. Especially when you have a bunch of 80 lb emaciated zombies walking on it.

Yes, because TV.

Seriously though. There are some things you just have to give allowances for. The zombies not falling though the ceiling is not interesting TV. The zombies falling through months ago when no one was there and we weren't watching is not interesting TV. As long as they give any reason for it, in this case the noise of the shelf falling sending them to that area of the roof, you just gotta take it for what it is. Reality is pretty boring.

I actually really enjoyed the episode. Good zombie porn to start things off. I'm also very interested in what killed that kid at the end.

Now, it's been a long time so maybe I just don't remember, but was Tyreese ever this big of a pussy in the comics as they're playing him here on the show?

Very happy that the HD flavor of AMC shows Walking dead "real time" no matter what time zone. We got to watch it at 6PM PT last night instead of having to wait until 9PM PT (which is when it aired on regular AMC channel in our time zone).

Agree with others' sentiments. I was very up for this episode, given that we had plowed through 3 seasons of the show on DVD to get caught up for season 4. It was good...but didn't meet the expectations I had set for it. Not sure if that's a function of my expectations, the show itself, or a combo.

I really felt bad for the people when the pig died because that probably means no bacon.

EDIT: except for the Jews because they wouldn't have eaten the bacon to begin with. I bet they're laughing at the gentiles in the prison now.

The pig did allow me to convince my brother that pigs are the greatest animals....

you feed it an apple you get bacon... you can't top that.

But seriously about the pig.... wasn't Hershel a fucking vet that owned a farm?

I liked it. It was good to have a "zombie apocalypse procedural" episode after all the Governor stuff last season. I don't want to get into the argument again, but I still think the zombies themselves need to take priority over arguments and psycho living people from time to time, so the store scene, as contrived as it was, was pretty enjoyable.

I'm also glad they didn't overplay the whole "Let's worry about Carl because he killed a guy who was in all likelihood going to try to pull a fast one on him" thing, and just made it more about Rick wanting everyone to try to have a normal life.

quote:
Why were we supposed to care about the young kid?

Because he seems decent enough and is Carl's friend maybe? Geez, you guys are real callous "impress me NOW!" jerks sometimes. Sometimes characters on shows are just normal, inoffensive people. Just because they aren't katana swingers or badass redneck hunters doesn't mean they're worthless.
I was a little more invested because I recognised the actor from Everybody Hates Chris:

Who's to say you were actually meant to "care" about him though, as opposed to just have a holy shit at there being a Walker in the prison now?

1. It never crossed my mind, but yeah, that shouldn't be right. Unless he was using one of those cheap battery powered mp3 players that Walgreens and Rite Aid sells.

2. I looked at it as the zombies got attracted to the sound, which brought them to a certain area. One zombie ended up on a weak spot, fell through, which fucked up the structural integrity of the roof? I dunno. I'm ok with it because alternative ways would've been boring, as Ziggy stated.

3. We're not really supposed to care about him. We were introduced to him to see him die and turn so that next week, crazy zombie stuff happens in the supposed safety of the prison.

4. Yeah, she did. My guess - they're not fucking, she just likes to call him that and other "cutsie" names now that their friendship has grown.

When it came to the ladies, yes. When it came to killing zombies, no. But then, I don't think he's a pussy in that regard. He was distraught at losing one of their own in that battle. But yeah, the big man gets whipped kind of easy, if I remember correctly.

I liked the episode. Good tension. Good zombie kills. Lots of questions about where they can go with this. Looking forward to next week.

Yeah I mean... a helicopter had crashed into the ceiling, plus there was water damage in that area, so it's not that hard to believe that the structural integrity had been compromised. And as far as that one guy dying in the store... the audience didn't know him, but we knew enough to see that he meant something to another character we do know.

I think it makes sense that there are a lot of new characters. On the Talking Dead, one of the producers said that 6-7 months have passed since last season. Like Ziggy said, some stuff is boring TV... seeing them planting crops and gathering survivors wouldn't have been that exciting. But it's nice to see them building up a serene society, since you know it's all going to go to shit pretty soon.

I figured something was up with that crazy bitch in the woods. Was that supposed to be camouflage on her, or was she just really filthy?

Edit-- I've always thought living that way would be terrifying, since if someone died in their sleep or something, there's really no way to guard against that. And now it's happened.

I always figured they would lock themselves into the cells when they slept. If they died in their sleep, they'd be stuck in the cell. Now, if you're not in a prison, then I don't know what you'd do.

Just to clarify my earlier post, the young kid I was talking about was the one who kissed Hershel's other daughter and got ate in the not Big Lots.
(I'm old so they are all kids, now get off my lawn)

As for the "other" kid, that does leave open some interesting possiblities... I agree that in the prison I would have kept the cell door closed regardless what anyone else did, also I would have somekind of guard rotation so there is always someone (or two) awake, and with all the new zombie food...er faces this season that shouldn't be a problem.

ETA: not in prison, I would still put something in front of the door to the room to at least give some kind of warning, but I am a paranoid fucker.

Eh, I don't think we were supposed to care about him either. Just a device to show Maggie's sister's character development, and as a redshirt to remind us that zombies are still pretty lethal even though they've been kept at bay pretty well.

Jeepers Creepers guys, this was "The Calm Before The Storm" episode. All you instant gratification numbnuts need to just take a deep breath because I think the rollercoaster is at the top of the hill ready for that drop that puts your stomach in your throat. There was tons of foreshadowing in this ep that I am pretty sure will play out before too long (lingering shots of their drinking water). Also, looking back at the trailer, it was edited to make you think one thing (an attack from the outside by the governor) when it seems more as though the crisis comes from within.

My question is less about how the roof started caving in and more about how the fuck those walkers got up there in the 1st place. Also, how could Bob have a 7ft shelf full of glass bottles fall on top of him and emerge without scratch one? I also think that Rick not putting a bullet into that lady after she committed harikari, will come back to bite him. Which leads my prediction that before the end of this season, Carl is going to have put down both of his parents.

There is no exception,
that everyone thinks they are the exception.
