TNA PPV: HardCORE Justice - ECW's Last Stand

So....we're 24 hours away and I'm just dying to know what you all honestly think going in. If this turns into the "OOficial" thread for the PPV, so be it.

Raven VS Dreamer
Mick Foley as special ref
-hoping Dreamer's knee doesn't shred itself any worse than it is
-I'm ok with this, as hopefully this really is THE end to a fantastic feud in American Wrestling History.
-That said, Please let them both keep their shirts on
-the ECW mark in me will be hoping that Raven gets the pin, if only because he ALWAYS got the pin on Dreamer. After that Tommy can beat on him with the kendo stick.

RVD vs Jerry Lynn
-While I've never seen the originals, I'm wishing I had.
-Sure, both guys have lost a step, but I have no doubt they'll go all out, and TNA will not have them pull any stops.
-Still should be all kinds of fun.

Random thoughts
-Sabu is advertised, wondering how he plays into all this
-Very curious who Team 3D gets to mess with, and if anyone will actually eat the flaming table. I'd probably mark out.
-Outside of the bWo, does anyone see anything particularly useful for Stevie Richards to do on this night?

My hope:
I'm hoping the have the 'young guys' of TNA in the audience, watching, sitting in the stands in small groups of friends. I really like the way they've drawn the parallels & similarities between ECW 95-99 and TNA now.... this small detail, and a few camera shots, even a promo in some way, might help pull some old school ECW fans into the TNA genre. Then again, I could be crazy.

Final thoughts:
I'm PRAYING that Heymen makes a surprise appearance, but I'm highly betting against it. That would f'n make the thing for me.

OO Nation, what are your thoughts?

Dude, whatever you've got to do to see their match from ECW Living Dangerously '99...DO IT.

Me and my wallet just got back from a week of vacation so it's not looking like I'll be ordering this, unfortunately. My curiousity is definitely piqued though.

And if they roll out some crazy shit like Heyman making an appearance, etc...I'm going to be pissed I didn't order it.

I wonder if one of Dreamers suprise guys will wind up being Terry Funk. Wasn't there news of him showing up at a TNA house show with Foley a few months ago?

Few notes/updates:

Apparently Jerry Lynn hurt his back while training, and can't wrestle tomorrow. So RVD will need a new opponent. Lame. But as gooker said, definitely track down some of their ECW stuff. At least one was on the RVD DVD that WWE did 5 or so years back (though I'm blanking on which one it was at the moment, they had a lot of great matches).

WWE owns the bWo trademark, so they can't use that. I guess you could have Stevie/Meanie/Nova do something together (though Meanie hasn't been confirmed), but you'd have to be really careful not to get too close to the bWo look/gimmick. Most likely I'd guess we'll see Stevie doing some sort of valet/run-in work with Raven's match.

Terry Funk has said he won't be at the show.

And while I guess it's not impossible, I'd be really surprised if Paul Heyman was at this show. I definitely think he'll join TNA eventually, but he's said that he wants no part of any more ECW reunion/tribute shows.

What was with the RVD backstage promo on Impact this week?

"Yeah, that's a lot of stuff, Christy. Just got to put one foot in front of the other take it one day at a time. Boy I should really take care of that Monster problem I've got. Plus I get to face Raven. You know we both used to work together."

Theres part of me that wants to smack RVD across the head. TNA is booking him as the strongest person in the company right now. The only active roster participant on the PPV, and main eventing the free PPV a few nights later. And he cant even spend 5 minutes prepping a nice promo?!!

But then theres part of me that actually thinks this is brilliant. Promos these days (and the whole WWE product) have become so overly scripted. And thats what makes wrestling seem fake and stupid. But here RVD was given a legitimate question and he just answers off the top of his head. Like a real person.

Yeah, Im giving him too much credit. But part of what I love about this show is that there is almost no announced card. You either want to see some of these guys again or you dont. Overly scripted is definitely out the window.

I also thought this last impact was perfect booking for the show. Give us a few cameos (Sandman, Jerry Lynn), and a flavor of the product, and dont let us think too much about the fact that all these guys are way over the hill.

Let me put it this way. Because the risks are so high, I can't quite order this PPV before the Tuesday replay.

I'm legitimately scared that this show is going to be off-the-wall terrible. With the wrong booking and few surprise appearances, this could be a collosal waste of money. But if this is like One Night Stand 2005 and people are raving, I can order it Tuesday knowing the spoilers don't really "spoil" this type of show.

Because it must be asked, does changing the PPV name from Hard Justice to Hardcore Justice (excuse me, HardCORE Justice) make it sound more or less like a gay porn?

And TNA has a list on their website of guys scheduled to appear:

Tommy Dreamer
Mick Foley
Rob Van Dam
Team 3D
Raven
Rhino
Stevie Richards
Simon Diamond
Al Snow
Axl Rotten
Johnny Swinger
Sabu
2 Cold Scorpio
Brother Runt
CW Anderson
The FBI
The Sandman
Jerry Lynn

Perhaps I'm just not thinking up to my usual Rick-caliber level of wit and wisdom at this point on a Saturday night, but how's about this...

I know WWE owns the bWo, but wouldn't the bWo only be half as timely and fun as the bXt?

Big Stevie Barrett, "Blue Dragon" Meanie Danielseon, and -- oh, let's just say -- "D-List" Davey Novatunga ARE TAKIN' OVER~!

Admit it: now that I've said it, you want it.

I want it. And that's why we won't be seeing it.

Although the fact that Stevie has been standing around with a thumb up his ass for the most part during these EV 2.0 promos doesn't bode well for his involvement.

But hell, that's a pretty great mix of old-school ECW guys mixed with the later-years (pre-WWE) ECW guys so that should be interesting.

Fuck, now I want to order it.

Leave it to Rick to come up with something that I'd laugh my ass off, is fully plausible, and of course, that means it cant happen. (sigh)

Sad to hear about Lynn being out with an injury, maybe this is where Sabu comes in? RVS vs Sabu could be very entertaining.

With that group, I'm seeing some fun possibilities...

-Team 3D & the FBI (2 on 2 or 3 on 3) - just picturing Little Guido being sent through the flaming table makes me smile a bit inside.

-I'm also picturing some fun with Rhino / Axl Rotten / & Al Snow

-Perhaps Scorpio & Sandman?

-There's no way I'm missing this show, if only for the curiosity factor, and the fact that it'll be a 'last stand' without any Vince McMahon influence at all.

I think the loss of Jerry Lynn is a major blow, possibly a killer blow for this PPV.

Who else is left from the original ECW who can really go with RVD, enough to stand out as special compared to his last few months (against Hardy, AJ etc) and with a genuine ECW history to make it make sense?

Obvious immediate choice would be Sabu, but he's in no condition to put on a 90's showcase, and I genuinely can't think of anyone else.

Looks like Jerry Lynn/RVD is on youtube. Not sure which of these is the most famous one, but they're probably all awesome.

From PWInsider:

Word from backstage at Hardcore Justice is that New Jack is in the building. I have heard that he will be teaming with Mustafa tonight to reform The Gangstas.
God, I really can't afford to be buying PPVs right now, but this just keeps getting more and more tempting.

Dammit. I was hoping the classic New Jack "run in" was one angle they could do under TNA that WWE wouldn't go for, and was also hoping it would be a surprise.

I've been watching online hoping to see Lynn's replacement to see if it will sell me on the event (I can't buy it, being in the UK, but see if its worth digging for streams!) - but now I don't wanna be spoiled anymore.

Guess its got me hooked, one last time. Cya after the event

The leading names to replace Lynn are Scorpio and Kash. Neither have the history, but these are probably the best two options to have an actual good match.

I believe I saw Rhino/Sabu/Sandman was booked. But at this point everything is a rumor.

Wow. An hour and a half in, and the first thing that that actually resembled something along the lines of old school ECW (and which wasn't either watered-down/played-for-nostalgia, or just plain eyeball-rolling) is officially...

Joel Gertner.

And granted, he's a poetic genius, and all, but... Joel Gertner? Yep...

Thanks for playing, TNA. Unless something seriously picks up and they give us at least one "moment" to hang our hats on, I'm saying ECW still died that one night in June 2005....

Extreme Dance offs? Lightsaber Duel? Spike Dudley vs Rhyno and no blood? The crappiest chair shots by Cojones? Apart from the flaming table, the pedigree/piledriver from Kash and Scorpio vs CW Anderson this PPV has been fail. And those TNA fans? Someone shoot them.

What's actually been happening?

And have the IMPACT zoners still been chanting EV 2.0? They do know WWE can't sue them for chants, right?

They've chanted "ECW ECW" just because Team 3d was fighting with Axl Rotten and Cojones (balls mahoney) in the crowd. They've basically chanted non sensical crap all night.

Ill give them props for the Raven vs Dreamer match especially the barbed wire cross face..that was sick.

I remember following along with One Night Stand online on an online recap and thinking to myself "This seems like an awesome as hell show". Then I saw it and it pretty much confirmed it was awesome.

This, on the other hand? Maybe they shouldn't have done this without Heyman?
