You know what establishment absolutely fucking NEEDS a self checkout? Auto Zone... or really any auto parts store like that. Jesus, I can't tell you how many times I've just wanted to pop in and grab some oil, or windshield wipers or something... and I inevitably end up stuck behind some dirty, grime-covered fuck who spends 20 minutes talking about/ordering auto parts and tying up the clerk.

Word. And Word.

A few weeks back, I had to pick up some replacement bulbs for my wife's headlights. Yeah, there's a joke in there. I got the bulbs and sat waiting several minutes for one guy to do finish checking out, as I'm not sure what the issues were.

And I'm not going to stand in line - if I don't have to - just to pay for some bread and peanut butter.

Because I'm riddled with anxiety, I rather prefer the option of self-checkouts. I don't have to interact with somebody who's going to ask me if I want to sign up for the store credit card/donate to some fund-raising thingee/ask me if I found everything I was looking for. I can just ring up my shit and gtfo, and head back to my hiding spot. Plus, I'm getting sick of grocery store checkout clerks who aren't taught the fundamentals of bagging groceries. DON'T PUT THE BREAD IN THE BOTTOM OF A FUCKING BAG AND THEN LOAD THINGS ON TOP OF IT. If I want squished bread, I can self-squish it when I get home.

I'm pretty sure that "checkout clerks" were invented because store owners figure that people will steal everything that's not nailed down, unless they have to go through a "checkout" process. And to be fair, there are a number of people who -would- steal everything that's not nailed down, I don't deny that. I'm just glad some places are willing to trust (and I use that word very loosely) the customer enough to let them self-check.

9 times out of 10, I prefer self checkout, especially since most of my store visits are for less than 10 items. A full shopping trip with coupons, I definitely prefer the cashier.

Home Depot has self checkout now. I like it, especially if I'm in there just for 1 or 2 items, which is 95% of the time I'm at a Home Depot.

Hitting full-scale paranoia at this point in my life. Unfollowed everyone on Twitter because it just got to be too much. Weekly therapy sessions are only marginal help. Medical bills have gone to collections which will stretch my monthly budget even more. Feel like I can't trust anyone. No real motivation to put work into improving my life because a better job would mean helping more people and I have a very low opinion of most people nowadays. Ugh.

Want me to come in and restock the shelves I shop from and not get paid for that, while I'm at it? Fuck you. There's always one or two human cashiers and fifteen self-checkouts and whenever I inevitably stand in line for a person to ring me up, some smiling dork in mid-management comes over to tell me "the self-checkout lanes are open if you don't want to wait". I can see that, you cunt. I didn't come in here to fucking work. Why don't you hop your lazy ass onto a register and ring me up yourself if you're worried about me having to wait? I always answer "if I ring myself up, when do I get my paycheck?" and they always stammer and smile awkwardly and quickly walk away. I absolutely hate it. Target was a safe haven from this shit for a while and now they're pulling this bullshit too. And these big box dicklords are genuinely confused as to why people prefer shopping online. Fuck.

Way late on this, but fuck this rant. The grocery store down the street from my house did away with self-checkout now I find myself standing in line twice as long and having to deal with peoplefolk that's a lose-lose in my book.

edited to add: Hang in there PB you seem like a good dude, and I know its not easy but I'm glad you're seeking out help.

I slept away most of Friday and probably needed it. It's essentially a day-to-day thing right now. Probably need to talk to my doctor about another medication adjustment. Already on antidepressants and sleep aids. At least I have comedy and wrestling shows this weekend to take my mind off things.

In addition to the meds, are you doing some kind of "low-intensity physical activity" type stuff? When I had a therapist who gave a crap, that was one of his better suggestions. I'm not exactly a shining example of taking advice, however, but I can recognize the goodness of that idea. And, to dovetail nicely with another recently-relevant topic, maybe give the DDP Yoga a try? It's part-wrestling, part-"comedy" (well, more fun-than-comical), and it might get some of the good-chemicals flowing in the brain. Plus, I have heard that the DDP materials are easy to find if you know how to steal things from the internet, so your budget wouldn't necessarily take a hit in the process.

Note: This isn't meant to be, like, "telling you to do stuff". I just don't like seeing other people in the same (or worse) situation as me, so I throw things at their wall & hope some help sticks. As The Rick (among others) says, YMMV.

P.S. Regardless of what you do/don't do, remember that you have "us" and hopefully other people too. You are not alone.

Unfortunately I'm pretty stubborn about altering my life patterns; I've been recommended yoga and meditation and the like, but I need to set my mind to giving them a try. Taking a cue from Mauro Ranallo with the Twitter stuff; more psychiatrists should prescribe "stay the fuck off social media" to depressed patients. Too many trolls are running rampant now that one of their own is in the White House.

Comedy show tonight was fun; didn't perform, just watched. Got two indie rasslin shows this weekend so I can hang out with friends along my wavelength.

I can totally empathize with the stubborn-to-change-self thing. I usually need to be pushed or dragged, or catapulted headlong at change like a runaway train.

I hope the indies were a ton-o-fun, at least!

Yup, it's been my new favorite wrestling thing. Hang out with friends, watch some of the local crew do cool stuff. Would rather go to a local indie show of any level than watch WWE or TNA at home. Plus the people-watching can be tremendous.

Got Kyle O'Reilly vs. Davey Vega on Sunday. Good times.

Therapist visit this morning led to a discussion of Asperger's Syndrome...seems like I might fit the profile. Would make sense. At least it's a start, instead of blindly wondering what's wrong with me.

Starting to accept that wrestling isn't fun for me any more...and it hasn't been in years. Probably for the best. A break would probably do me some good.

Make sure your therapist knows what they are talking about.

I am in no way diminishing your symptoms or minimizing your issues, but Asberger's Syndrome as a separate diagnosis was eliminated and folded into high-functioning autism in 2010. AS, therefore, is not a real diagnosis per se. If you do, in fact, have symptoms of what was known as Asberger's Syndrome, then your actual diagnosis would be high-functioning autism. If your therapist doesn't know this, then that reflects badly on their knowledge base.

Either way, I hope you get the treatment you need and get well.

I did discuss that with her. Hope to do more research in the near future.

Financially, things are looking up. Finally biting the bullet and getting the home equity loan to alleviate my debt problems. Also, I'm starting a new job in two weeks with full-time hours and health insurance...plus nights and weekends are freed up, so no more worrying about asking off for comedy and rasslin shows.

I turned 40 years old on Wednesday. Woo. Age milestones aren't that big a deal any more, really, and I didn't even do anything special.

Doing my best to settle back into a more casual wrestling fandom and not take stuff as seriously. It's almost a necessity with Wrestling Twitter becoming a minefield with regards to certain subjects.
