Guide to Finding, Cropping and Posting AVATARS and Pictures

Finding Pictures

Method 1: GOOGLE

You can use google to find pictures a couple of ways:

Plan A) use Google's Image Search. To find most things. Couple of helpful hints: If you want Gail Kim nude pics search for "Gail Kim nude pics" in quotations. Often a name in brackets then a + sign and then nude ( ie "Gail Kim" + nude) is all you need. Once you've found the picture "right click" and select "save image as" to save to your PC.

Plan B) You may come along a picture on a site that has a PASSWORD!!! Google can STILL help, as long as you know the url of the members section. For instance some of you may remember OOKyle was fond of Tawnee Stone. She's a internet porn starlet whose member's webpage is www.tawneestone.com/members/content/ (don't ask how I know...I just do). If you wanted a password you can do a Google's main search for *:*@www.tawneestone.com/members/ and you'll be shocked at what you get. You may want to use Google's Advance Search and just search the last three months. Keep in mind, that passwords you find with this method don't last long...but often long enough to snatch those pictures of Gail Kim's boobies you want.

Plan C) Search for FAN SITES! Want Trish pics? Use google to search for "Trish Stratus" Fan Site and you'll often find what you are after. These sites are often run by people who make my Trish obsession look normal. Great place to get screen caps of the latest RAW, SmackDown!, or PPV.

Method 2: "Borrow" From Others!

Ok, some might call this cheap, but often if you come across other forums, message boards, or picture sites you'll find pictures you may want to share. @ least half of my Diva post are just me passing on the work of others.

*****

Cropping A Picture.

From time to time you may need to resize an image to post or use as an Av. If you don't have Photoshop, you can downlad GIMPShop for free. Most of the steps for GIMPShop are similiar to Photoshop.

Download the GIMPShop fromhttp://www.plasticbugs.com/blogimg/gimpshop_2.2.8_fix1_setup.exe and installed it.

Steps to resize an image to use as an Avatar:

1 - Open GIMPShop

2 - Use GIMPShop to open the picture you want as your Avatar...it should look something like this:

3 - Click "Image" and then "Image Size"

4 - Put a "check" beside "Maintain aspect ratio"

5a - Select width of "150"

5b - Click in the height field

5c - Does that auto selected height = less then 125 pixels? If yes...move on to Step 6

5d - If height is still more then 125, select 125 as the height

5e - Click in the the width field...at this point it GIMPShop should look something like this:

6 - Once the dimensions are selected, click on "Scale"

7 - Click on "File" then "Save A Copy"...you should be looking at something like this:

8 - Give your Avatar a name

9 - Make sure you put ".jpg" on the end of the file to save as a JPEG.

10 - Select a location to save the resized image.

11 - Click on "save"

You just created an image that will not piss off the mods when you use it as your avatar!

Posting Pictures / Adding an Avatar

You can post images by using the BBCode to post ANY picture online...just make sure the site allows hot-linking. All you need to do is find an image, right click it, and view the image's properties. Copy the url of the image and use it in the BBCode. If using an image for an av, no code is needed.

OR

Use Photobucket (www.photobucket.com):

1 - get a pic and save it to you PC

2 - sign up for photobucket and sign in

3 - click on "browse" then choose the pic you want to upload

4 - click "upload"

You now have a picture uploaded to the net...now here's how you can use it.

In Photobucket, 3 "tags" are created for you: 1- url; 2 - Tag; and 3 - Img.

Now if you want to put up an avatar, you'd copy EXACTLY the URL for the image created by Photobucket (the blue area):

If you post using HTML tags, or use HTML tags for a website or another board, use the yellow:

And finally, if you want to post a pic, use the red area:

Remeber YOU HAVE TO COPY THINGS EXACTLY!!! Do not use spacing or anything like that between the tags. So if I'd wanted to remind folks that Orton Fears Jeb, what I'd have to put in my message is ...that's how we get the pic below:

...now keep in mind, I had to use

OR

If you are going to post "mature"pictures, or just don't want to sign up for a site, download the picture to your computer and use some kind of imagehost. Copy the link that says thumbnail to a forum and paste it to your topic. For imagehost sites, www.imagevenue.com is the one I like best.

When you go to imagevenue.com the site should look like this:

Click on "Browse" and select the picture you want to upload. Once it's selected, click on "Send File(s)" to upload the pic.

You should then be at a page that looks like this:

There's a couple of things you can do. Use the image's URL as your AV, post the picture using the BB Code or post a clickable thumbnail. There's two main areas of the imagevenue page of the picture to keep in mind:

The red area will get you the url for your AV or to use with the BB. The blue area is the code for a clickable thumb. This is usefull if you (or the mods) want to avoid having a HUGE picture mess up the formatting of the boards.

OR

Download ImageUploader and use it to upload numerous pictures and generate the BBCode needed to post them to the forums!

I thought Imageshack had an anti-porn policy. Should that be on your "mature" list?

Thank you for posting your posting pics guide again. You'd be surprised how many people have trouble hosting their own avs. Some don't know anything, period. Some are used to finding links on their own and making an av that way and don't know how to resize and host. Your old thread in PCs/Games has been VERY helpful when it comes to clueing people in and saving me the trouble of writing out instructions. Thanks again.

EXTRA ADVICE/RECOMMENDATIONS FOR AVATARS
1. ALWAYS remember to right-click (or in mac, hold down control and click in Firefox) on the image and select PROPERTIES to check its size. The image needs to be less than 150 pixels wide x 125 tall and less than 50k.

2. BFG likes Photobucket, but if you don't like to have to register for an account to host a pic, use Imageshack.us.

3. Google Image Search's THUMBNAILS are a great resource for avatar-sized pics of pictures that are much bigger. Just open the THUMBNAIL (not the whole image) in a new window and use that address in your avatar field. Don't click on the image to open it up fully!

For example, here's the page you get from a GIS for Chris Benoit:
http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=Chris+Benoit&btnG=Sea rch

Now, you can find THIS image on the page:
http://pageperso.aol.fr/hardytajiri/images/benoit.jpg

But that image is too big. But if you click properties for the IMAGE (not the image location) or select "View image," you get the address for the thumbnail, here, and it's a good avatar size. Always double-check the size by right-clicking and selecting PROPERTIES!

Hope that helps.

For resizing stuff, there's always Pix Resizer. That's all it does, but it isn't complicated.

Necro-necro-necro:

Just wondering if anyone knows how to save pictures from a site (e.g. WWE.com) that has the usual "right-click-save-picture" blocked. There were a couple of Orton-is-as-stupid-does photos in there recently that were too priceless to lose but unfortunately are protected and not copyable using the standard right-click method. Any hints, boys?

There have got to be easier ways, but this is what I've done since it's all I know how to do (did this for the Inside Orton's Brain one that Rick then went to town with in overlaying his own stuff):

Go to site in question and hit Print Screen (saves to clipboard)
Go into any picture editing tool, paste it, and have at it re: cropping and what not.

OR

Go to site in question and hit Print Screen (saves to clipboard)
Go into Powerpoint and paste. Save file as .jpg
Then open in any picture editing tool and have at it re: cropping and what not.

More steps than I"m sure are necessary. In all it prob takes me an extra minute to get it where I need it to be.

Thanks. It didn't work for me because I got no response from my Print Screen on the keyboard.

Strangely enough something else did work. I hit right-click and then print. It gave the list of available printers and something called One Note from my Office 2007 program. I double-clicked the One Note instead of hitting Print and was able to save the entire picture as a JPEG right from the One Note screen. All considered it took very little time and I'm quite happy about it.

It's probably kind of odd to go through all the motions to save pictures but, considering that there's no other performer besides Orton so laughably dumb enough to make it interesting, I figure this one was worth it:

For anybody looking for images to use, my PhotoBucket is always fair game. You'll have to do the re-sizing on your own, though.
